Sorry, not sorry to the customer who recently asked if one of our products was "low-tox". While I genuinely welcome all chat in store, questions like this do make me want to set the record straight - they're the direct result of fear-based marketing that it’s well and truly time the beauty industry stopped feeding you.
Every cosmetic product sold in New Zealand (and Australia, and the EU, and the USA…) is governed by regulations with one overarching requirement: it must not cause harm*. Full stop. The end.
No cosmetic brand, whether marketed as "clean," "natural," or otherwise, can legally sell you something "toxic". The regulations don't allow it.
What you've been sold with the idea of "low-tox" beauty is fear. Fear that the other products on the shelf are somehow dangerous. They're not.
Twenty+ years in this industry, and misinformation is my biggest pet peeve.
Highly recommend following the science communicators working their butts off to counter all the beauty marketing bull we’re subjected to. A great start is who has a fantastic podcast where she talks with experts in fields like microplastics, talc, animal testing, sunscreen and more.
