We had the wonderful Hēmi Kelly in store yesterday ahead of After Dark – He Rā Whatiwhati Kō! ✨

Hēmi spent time kōrero with our kaimahi, sharing insights from his research and the development of his Everyday Māori platform. Through this mahi, he has created a series of much-loved books that support people to build a genuine, everyday connection with te reo Māori, whether you’re just starting out or continuing your learning journey.

Kākāpō breeding season is well underway! 🌿💚

With only 236 kākāpō left in the world, every single one matters. That’s why the incredible teams at are working tirelessly to ensure each precious egg adds to the count.

Sadly, most of us won’t get to see the critically endangered kākāpō in person - but you can learn about a kākāpō ej*******on helmet – a curious but ultimately unsuccessful innovation from the team that can now be found in Te Papa’s Blood Earth Fire exhibition.

You can also celebrate Aotearoa New Zealand’s iconic night parrot with a piece of art history. George Edward Lodge’s stunning early 1900s watercolour of the kākāpō, nesting in our National Art Collection for over a century, now graces our Birds of Aotearoa homeware collection (link in bio 🦜).
