Timber choices are key for healthy and safe raised gardens

Today we want to share with you some inspiration to get building to get growing!
The best timber choice is “HT” which is Heat Treated, building a bed from this is the solution to safe gardening.

Here is a fact- Beehives are untreated timber this is because bee’s = animals/insects = honey = food.

People often say “we will start a vegetable garden in Spring” our advise….. Start building today let nature be part of it. Starting now reduces costs of buying in special soils which intern will reduce your savings. Where completing a garden bed now will enable you to bank the savings come the future months!!!!

Building a raised garden, ahead of Spring is the ideal solution to make a cost-effective garden base no need to buy in soil/potting mix etc.

If you can’t supply these from within your property maybe reach out to the community – someone’s waste can always be someone else’s treasure. Repay a “thanks” with a harvest of a few vegetables for them come Spring.
Start off with some rough and rugged base in your raised garden (treat it as a compost!) adding a good layer of 1cm or below branches to the bottom of your raised bed is ideal (Do not use Willow) but someone will have done some pruning's and rather than green bin it, put it into your raised bed base.

Some other suggestions:
Manure (this is produced 365 days a year many horse owners just toss it in a tree line or such so they would be eager to have some taken away!)- Horse manure is fine a good ¾ fill of the raised bed is fine just be sure to layer it with some green goods such as bedding from Rabbits, or Chickens and some weeds (let weeds wilt for a few days first)
