Being a local business means more than just having a shop in your neighbourhood.

We employ local. We support local. And we believe that also means looking after the place we all live in.

That's why we've partnered with Econox, a New Zealand recycling company, to properly recycle our waste polystyrene and used batteries instead of sending them to landfill.

It's a bigger deal than it sounds. Polystyrene doesn't break down for centuries and councils won't take it in kerbside recycling, while old batteries can't go in general rubbish at all due to fire risk. Both need somewhere specific to go, and until now that's been the hard part.

Through Econox, our polystyrene gets shredded and reprocessed into new material instead of sitting in the ground for the next few hundred years, and our batteries are recycled safely and responsibly rather than ending up somewhere they shouldn't.

It's a small change on our end, but it adds up. Repairing phones instead of replacing them is already better for the planet than most people realise, and making sure the waste that comes with it is handled properly is the next step.

Today we said goodbye to our General Manager, Paul.

Paul joined the Phone Life team last year, moving over from Australia to take on the role. In that time he's become a genuinely valued part of the team, and it's fair to say he'll leave a gap behind him.

Paul is heading back to Auckland to be closer to his young family, and while we're sad to see him go, it's exactly the right call. Family comes first, and we're grateful for the time, energy and care he put into this business over the past year.

Thank you, Paul, for everything you brought to the team. You'll be missed around here, and we wish you and your family all the best for this next chapter in Auckland.

Your camera lens is the most exposed part of your phone. Protect it.

Think about it — your lens is the bit that sticks out, gets set face-down on tables, and takes the hit first if you drop your phone.

A cracked screen is annoying. A scratched or cracked lens is worse — every photo and video comes out blurry, hazy, or with light flares, and there's no fixing that without a full camera replacement.

Hi Tauranga, we're hiring for our team at the Phone Life kiosk in the mall.

You don't have to be experienced, but a genuine passion for helping people, a willingness to work hard and an interest in tech are all essential.

We are looking for a full-time worker, or two part-timers to work together, but we are also interested in casuals to help us fill gaps in the roster.

We're open seven days a week and have a kiosk in Rotorua also. You'll need to be available to work weekends and travel if we need you to cover elsewhere.
