Tulip Planting Season is Here

We’ve still got loads of beautiful tulips in stock — and now’s the time to get them in the ground.

Tulips should be planted through autumn into early winter while the soil is still workable. They need that cold period to establish properly, setting you up for a strong, colourful display in spring.

Plant them in a sunny spot, well-drained soil, and you’ll be rewarded with one of the best seasonal shows you can get in the garden.

H**e ‘Wiri Jim’

A tough, reliable performer that earns its place in any garden.

H**e ‘Wiri Jim’ is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its tidy shape and vibrant purple flower spikes, which appear from late spring through summer here in New Zealand.

It’s a great all-rounder — perfect for low hedging, borders, or mass planting, and tough enough to handle coastal conditions, wind, and dry periods once established. The dense foliage also makes it ideal for adding structure and year-round colour to the garden.

The Trichocereus pachanoi, better known as the San Pedro cactus, is one of those plants that quietly grows… and then completely steals the show.

Flowering in New Zealand typically lines up with summer, when warm nights trigger its blooms. These usually appear on well-established plants, often taking anywhere from 5–10+ years to flower, depending on conditions and maturity.

And when it does flower, it’s unforgettable.

Large, pure white blooms emerge from the top of the stems, opening at night and carrying a soft, sweet fragrance. Each flower is short-lived, lasting just 1–2 days before fading, which makes catching it in full bloom even more special.

Over a flowering period, a mature plant can produce multiple blooms across several weeks, creating a real spectacle.

We’ve got a range of sizes in stock now, from smaller starters through to well-established specimens.

A Amorphophallus konjac!

Grown for centuries, Amorphophallus konjac is known for its edible corm used to make konjac noodles , but the real talking point is the flower.

A bold, deep purple bloom with a towering spike… and a smell to match (think rotting flesh) to attract pollinators.

After flowering, it throws up a single tropical-style leaf that looks more like a small tree.
