The hardiness of (some) dahlias isn’t often talked about. We have over the years (accidentally) rotary hoed straight over the top of some only to have them respect and regrow. Today, I was putting some of my freshly lifted tubers into their trays and came across these ones. They were lifted last August (2025) and I didn’t plant them - either running or of time or space. But here they are. Sitting out of soil or wood shavings, sprouted and even with some buds on them. Surviving.

Didn’t even think there was a frost! But they have been some cold starts and overnight temps. It always shocks me how abruptly the seemingly endless dahlia season stops. So now the prep and planning and lifting and dividing will start for next season. Never a dull moment!
