The SCOPE!
Had a number of inquiries after the posting of the Pristine 6.5 CM rifle success, asking what the scope is that’s fitted to the rifle.
It's a story in itself, bloody scopes, everything I’ve tried in my life time, there's always a reason I end up hating them.
I needed something different?
I rang up Nic from Beretta NZ and he suggested the STEINER PREDATOR 8 Series, 3-24x50 Hunting Scope with Customizable Ballistic Turrets.
I thought what the hell, I'll give it a go!
A few days before we were due to go on the hunt the scope turned up, the boys from the shop fitted it, I went to the range and sighted it in.
Ironically, it was ridiculously accurate from the first shot, just adjusted the height from memory, fired only 7 shots at 100 meters, as always, I was in a hurry but the shots were good and close enough.
Came back from the range and said to Dave & Colin now set the Turrets so I have pre-set dial ups for 100, 200, 300, & 400 meters, so between them they wrote a programme from Dave’s I-Phone using his ballistic program. All distances calculated for the Wi******er 125gr Dear Season packet ammo that I was using.
Off I went hunting, on first day, I loaded the 10-round magazine, 10 shots later I had 8 kills, only reason I had 2 misses, was I forgot to change the dial up for the correct distance I was shooting. The eight kills were all at varying distances but a couple were close to 400 meters, later on I did record kills at over a true 400 meters.
All this was achieved only after 7 sight-in shots.
I can’t make enough good comments about the STEINER PREDATOR 8 Series, 3-24x50 Scope, the eye relief is phenomenal, (95mm) The dial up was just simply superb (once I got use to and remembered to use it) and the reticle (E3 I think they call it) is simplistic & clear, just perfect for what you need, when hunting.
It’s a scope I’m keeping!
