The business begun in 2002 by Pru and Roly Broughton. Pru did not wish to have a huge nursery where she would be trucking seedlings around the country, so decided to franchise the brand. In 2019, Pru decided to retire and we (Bridgit and Steve Gibellini) who have owned the Weathersfield Nelson/Marlborough franchise since 2010 now own the parent company. We are enthusiastic for people to embody org

anics, homegrown produce and wished to continue Pru’s business philosophy of local growers servicing local markets. We grow and sell Biogro Certified Organic herb and vegetable seedlings. Also, in select areas we have Weathersfield Certified Organic Potting Mix and Compost available in 20L bags and bulk. We now have franchises in Canterbury, Nelson, Gisborne, and West Auckland

Big things are growing at Mahinga Kai – our Urban Farm. At 4 A Better City Charitable Trust, our social enterprises play a key role in supporting our community work across the Hutt Valley, from wellbeing and housing to food security, sustainability and employment.

We’re the proud owners of the Wellington franchise of Weathersfield Certified Organics Ltd and last week we had a lovely visit from owners Bridgit and Steve who came to meet the team who grow and care for their BioGro-certified herb and vegetable seedlings right here in Upper Hutt.

You’ll find our fresh, locally grown seedlings at Mitre 10 MEGA Upper Hutt Mitre 10 MEGA Porirua and Mitre 10 MEGA Petone .

Every seedling you buy helps fund our charitable work, so as well as growing your garden you’ll be growing a stronger community.
