Jean-Antoine Carrel - Edward Whymper

On this day 143 years ago, Edward Whymper and Jean-Antoine Carrel became the first people to summit Mt. Chimborazo in Ecuador. An interesting fact is the mountain’s summit is the closest point to the moon on our planet. Whymper and Carrel pioneered the Whymper route that begins at Whmyper Refuge at 5000M/ 16,404FT. However this route is rarely used now because of glacial recession. First Photo Credit @ David Torres
