Did you know that before I moved to New Zealand I did not have single in real life friend who could knit? It was just seen as this quirky very Katie thing that I did. I didn’t mind because I enjoyed my knitting but I dreamed of being part of a community like this one.

Planning events, gathering yarny people? This is the heart of why I do what I do. It’s the community aspect that means so much to me. A place that is warm and inclusive and welcoming to anyone who wants to join in.

Tonight was great. It always is because these are some top people. 🫶🏽✨

I think it’s time you stop telling yourself you can’t.

Or that you’re not smart enough. Or cool enough. Or educated enough. Or or or.

The only reason is happening tomorrow is because I decided a few years ago that I was smart enough to figure out anything I wanted to make happen. And then? Then you just figure it out. We sold 65 tickets and were sold out. Before the event even happens.

I made a dream list of speakers and teachers and then I thought what’s the worst they can say? No. And guess what? They nearly all said yes. We all want more joy. More aroha. More spaces that feel inclusive and inspiring. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?

I am so freaking proud of what we’ve put together and I can’t wait for tomorrow.

Showing up here feels a bit awkward these days if I’m being totally honest. I miss seeing you in person. I miss jumping into my stories so often that I don’t ever overthink it. However… I have space and flexibility for everything else in my/our life and my stress is so much lower. So it’s a trade off I guess.

Anyway, I’m still here. Knitting every day. Still wanting to connect with you and chat about how you are and what you’re making.

So first I was running a hand dyed pop up store which turned into a retail store selling a mix of commercial and hand dyed yarn then closed that store to have better work life balance only to then run all the social media and marketing of our family butcher shop while doing the online store and then went down the rabbit hole of organizing a weekend retreat for makers. I am well aware that was a run on sentence but it felt right. 🤣🤣 Just let me liveeeee. I want to do it all.
