Not only are our two top sellers for May by New Zealand authors, one is very local to us, so it’s extra exciting.

Maria Gill took the top spot overall for her novel bringing the story of Nancy Wake to life - published as a young adult novel but with crossover appeal to an adult audience too.

And Lily Emo’s beautiful picture book B is for Bird has found a way into many homes this past month with the blend of her stunning illustrations and clever rhyme.

You can forget about any character on our crime and thriller table being the top crime-fighter in our shop - they don’t stand a chance next to Detective Beans!

The creation of Auckland author and illustrator Li Chen, this clever cat is much loved by our younger customers and to say some of them have run in the door this week and squealed with joy seeing the third title in this series is here, is no exaggeration.

While stocks last we have a gift with purchase of four branded pencils so the reader can also make notes like their hero!

The other two titles in the series are in stock too, but are fine to be read in any order.

We couldn’t let one of today’s new releases go by with the rest without special mention because of just how beautiful and charming it is.

Author and illustrator lily.emo turns her attention to the native birds of Aotearoa with this alphabet picture book. Cleverly the birds and characteristics pictured relate to each letter so there is a lot of fun word play to share in this rhyming story.

Pictured are two of our favourites - naturally our shop logo as well as the melodic Tui!
