Please enjoy this extremely realistic portrayal of the vending crew of at the end of the day…we’re all chill, calm and relaxed, and absolutely nobody is muttering curses at Jo for forcing them to do photos mid pack up when we’re all exhausted!
You probably already know how amazing this team is. I’m just here to confirm they’re all that and then some. They make Woollington the amazing event it is. And sometimes - this one included - they pick up the slack (calmly, enthusiastically and oh so well) when my hands are too full and can’t keep up. They are just the bee’s knees and I’m so grateful to be a part of this woolly whānau we’ve created. Thanks for being a part of it too!

Wow Wellington, you know how to come out in support!
We’re passionate about great yarn, and having great yarns with excellent humans…and you always deliver!
Thank you to everyone who braved the inclement weather, to share your projects, to sit and knit, to catch up and of course to find new treasures.
We love this slightly chaotic thing we do, and you make it possible. Thank you!

The Chosen Family Project is special to all of us at Woollington, and it's a great privilege to host Steven and Arlo again to share their story behind the collaborative making.

Come along and kōrero about chosen families, celebrating diversity and showing up for the rainbow community in our yarn spaces. There's plenty of room at Woollington to hang out and knit your own projects, or contribute to this ever-growing and evolving piece of handmade art.

There's a special place for unique, sheepy yarns developed and produced by international artisans, and that's where Amy and Nick of join our flock.

Bringing us the likes of Rosa Pomar and De Rerum Natura yarns, ITO and Merchant & Mills, John Arbon and Gathernor, it's like the yarn world in a corner of Woollington.

This event will mainly feature summer-leaning fibres and blends, plus haberdashery and tailor's clappers brought to us by Newtown House.

Find them and a collection of passionate yarnies at Woollington, 10am - 3pm, Monday 27 October, Moerā Community House, 105 Randwick Street, Lower Hutt.

Why Woollington? Part two of two...

Every six months or so a group of yarn people from the wider Wellington region come together and share yarn and treats with you.

But why in this format? Woollington's kaupapa is based on including our diverse whānau and friends in the joy that is making - we all value looking after the health, wellbeing and freedom of expression that marginalised groups deserve.

Here's some Woollington tips for those who feel anxiety about attending events, and to help everyone feel comfortable:
😷Masking is welcome!
🤫Afternoons are usually much quieter than the morning - so plan to come later if crowds overwhelm you.
😎Don't feel like chatting? That's fine - all our traders are good at picking up on who wants to chat and who doesn't. Want to sit, be social and not talk? No problem.
🚽worried about the bathroom? 1, we have them, 2, use whichever you like.
☕Need coffee to function like a human? 99% chance of their being coffee available on the day, but you're welcome to bring your own treats. We do request no strong smells as it can be a migraine trigger for some
❓Please ask before you touch anyone's hand knit - yes we all love to appreciate by touching, but only with consent.

Why Woollington? Part one of two...

It's an event we love to welcome everyone into - without any fear of discrimination or judgement. Here's how:
😷 mask-wearing is respected! We also encourage you to stay home if unwell to look after those in our community who have wobbly health.
🌈Our rainbow community is celebrated! We acknowledge our much-loved friends and family who love in many and various ways, and/or are trans, non-binary or gender-fluid.
🏳️‍🌈We take donations for the Gender Affirming Fairy Godmother Project, which provides safe gender-affirming clothing to those in need.
🌈The will be at Woollington again sharing their amazing craft project making a Chosen Family neighbourhood in yarn and stitches
👩‍🦽The venue is accessible - there is a ramp to enter the venue and no steps inside. There's always plenty of room to navigate with mobility aids.
🫶We know there is inherent privilege in being able to buy nice yarn, so it's totally ok to come and browse and simply be there for the vibes. Join us for social sitting and crafting and there's no need to buy if it's not in your budget.

We'd love to hear 'Why Woollington'? for you - share your thoughts in the comments 👇

Also please like and share - it helps us reach more people who might be into what we do 💛

Nikki is the colour genius behind and a mainstay of the Te Whanganui-a-Tara indie dyeing scene.

Best-known for muddy shades sitting next to vibrant brights, a knitter worth their stitches can usually spot a project from a distance. The depth of colour Nikki manages to achieve gives her yarn so much character and life, and is a genuine joy to create with.

You'll find Nikki and her sea-named wares at Woollington on Monday 27 October, Moerā Community Hall, 10am - 3pm.
