This human, Dr Lucy O'Hagan doctor writer, is absolutely bloody amazing! Last night at Havvers library, she performed her one woman, 32 character show based around her Ockham New Zealand Book Awards long-listed book Everything But the Medicine and OH MY GOODNESS we laughed (so hard) and wept and clapped and left as better people. If you missed out (because it sold out), you can still read the book and catch Lucy when she's around again.

Memory, reality, trauma, love, all of the things - it's an uncategorisable blend of scintillating prose, vivid characters and a cleverly woven plot. Fascinating! You could have heard a seal sniff (we did, actually) during Andrew Penniket's presentation of his incredible adventures as an underwater cameraman. Just stunning! Orcas after a stingray, Weddell seals chattering under the ice, crayfish emitting thousands of larvae into the ocean. We're off to book a diving course...
