It was the first time I'd been home to Turangi since setting up the shop in Auckland and mother nature turned on the good weather big time, it's been stunning.
The fishing has been challenging, there are a number of brown trout on the edges of the Tongariro who enjoyed watching my flies drift by. I had success on a couple willing browns with a slightly weighted Pheasant Tail Nymph under a small Parachute Adam's Dry Fly in shallow water in the wee seams on the edge of runs but I had a lot of not bothered reactions this weekend.
I met up each morning with a number of folk at the Coffee Cart as you come into Turangi and the feedback was pretty consistent, the lakes have been fishing well with some stonkingly big rainbows landed on Lake Taupo with Jig Rigs.
There was a good vibe amongst long term anglers optimistic about the coming winter season mentioning the fish they have been landing on the Lake and observing some solid smelting action.
It's time to pack the car and head back up the line and start getting ready for an assault on the salt as we fly for Aitutaki Sunday. 🤟✈️🎣
