This afternoon I've had a crack at explaining some basic 2 handed skagit setups for the winter ahead on the Central Plateau, it could be informative or it could be complete gobbledygook, I'm not sure 🤔 🫪😁 have a nosey and get amongst the swing this winter.

There has been some positive yarns through the Auckland shop today with folk having landed some stunning rainbows over the last few days, I'll try and get some pics for a bo peep at the superb bellies on these beauties.

The big noise this week has been on swinging the Tongariro, a lot of it folk curious about giving the two handed rods a go and just as many wanting to adapt their single hand setups.

We are well equipped to cover this here at Sporting Life Auckland and we will go over our range of lines and tips to get you on the swing whatever your setup may be over the next few days.

Morning team, we touched back down in NZ last night to a cluster bomb at customs and after several hours made it home following a turbulent time with canceled flights, bookings that couldn't be changed to adapt to the new days but none the less it was still an awesome trip and nothing beats the battle with a Giant Trevally even when they are trying to pull you out to sea 😁😄🤔

First port of call this morning in the shop has been to get the fly tying wall reordered to be topped up for the big push we are getting for winter tying.

Ill be back in store for a while so pop in and say g'day and get yourself geared up.

It was the first time I'd been home to Turangi since setting up the shop in Auckland and mother nature turned on the good weather big time, it's been stunning.

The fishing has been challenging, there are a number of brown trout on the edges of the Tongariro who enjoyed watching my flies drift by. I had success on a couple willing browns with a slightly weighted Pheasant Tail Nymph under a small Parachute Adam's Dry Fly in shallow water in the wee seams on the edge of runs but I had a lot of not bothered reactions this weekend.

I met up each morning with a number of folk at the Coffee Cart as you come into Turangi and the feedback was pretty consistent, the lakes have been fishing well with some stonkingly big rainbows landed on Lake Taupo with Jig Rigs.

There was a good vibe amongst long term anglers optimistic about the coming winter season mentioning the fish they have been landing on the Lake and observing some solid smelting action.

It's time to pack the car and head back up the line and start getting ready for an assault on the salt as we fly for Aitutaki Sunday. 🤟✈️🎣

The last couple of days in the shop have seen nearly all our customers shopping for Fly fishing trips abroad, most of them saltwater destinations either in the Pacific or South America but I did spend much of this morning trying to source 2 weight floating lines and reels to match for a group heading into the mountains of Japan to chase Iwana and Yamame in the beautiful small stream of Saitama.

Our Saltwater Fly Line range is looking sharp again with a little top up of the 8 weight and 9 weight fly line options and a full range of leaders along with GT Mono from 80lb to 150lb are back on the shelves.

Flies for Christmas Island are starting to dwindle in number a bit but should hold strong for another traveling group before I give them a top up.

We've had a little top up on the Scientific Anglers Amplitude Smooth Infinity Floating Lines which are working out to be the most popular of the SA lines through both our stores along with some SA Fly Line Dressing to give your current lines a spruce up if you haven't changed to the Infinity yet. 🤔😁

Winged Split Shot multi packs are back on the shelf which if sales history plays out they won't be there long as keeping stock of split shot last year was a challenge so have at it 😛😎🎣

All available now in-store and online. 🤟🤟🎣🎣
