Meet the Tauhou - Silvereye. This tiny bird only arrived in NZ in the 1850s, flying all the way from Australia, and has made itself very much at home ever since. They travel in flocks, love fruit, and that distinctive white eye-ring makes them pretty easy to spot once you know what you're looking for.

You always hear a Kererū before you see it. That big whooshing flap, then the crash landing. Branches bowing under the weight, wings akimbo, the whole tree wobbling.



But what I love about them is that underneath all that chaos sits one of NZ's most important birds. The Kererū is one of the only birds left in Aotearoa big enough to swallow large native seeds whole, which makes it absolutely critical for forest regeneration. 🌿

Kohab’s good friend took this shot and it made me smile.

It’s not just Tūī that love Kohab Bird Nectar. These little House Sparrows were straight in there.

They will be getting a great boost from the nutrients the beetroot provides.
