ENVY™, our premium global apple brand, has reached a major milestone – surpassing $1 billion in global retail sales. This is a fantastic milestone for T&G, our growers and the sector, with ENVY™ becoming New Zealand’s first billion-dollar apple brand!

This achievement reflects sustained global demand and years of investment in our integrated end-to-end Apples system, spanning proprietary genetics, future-fit growing methods, leading edge post-harvest capabilities and disciplined in-market ex*****on.

Bred in 1985 by the Bioeconomy Science Institute (then part of DSIR) and exclusively commercialised by ourselves, ENVY™ is today grown in more than 13 countries, sold in over 55 markets and is the among the top three apple brands across Viet Nam, Thailand and China.

The 2026 apple harvest is well underway, but earlier this month, we had the pleasure of welcoming many of our Hawke’s Bay Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) team members to Aotearoa with a pōwhiri at Waipatu marae.

T&G has proudly been part of the Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme since it was established in 2007. Over that time, it’s become an important part of how we complement and strengthen our local workforce, enabling Aotearoa’s horticulture sector to plan with confidence and operate effectively through our busiest periods.

Last Friday, we celebrated our fourth annual pōwhiri welcoming many of our Hawke’s Bay Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) team members to Aotearoa New Zealand, to Hawke’s Bay and to T&G for the 2026 apple season.

Hosted by Ngāti Kahungunu at Waipatu marae, this event has become a very special tradition and cultural exchange for our organisation, welcoming teams from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Samoa.

A huge thank you to mana whenua for hosting us and everyone who attended and helped make this day possible.

Demand for our premium ENVY™ apples continues to build across key Asian markets ahead of Lunar New Year and Tết Nguyên Đán celebrations.

Volumes are tracking ahead of last year in China, Viet Nam and Thailand, supported by strong retailer support and sustained consumer demand during this important consumption and gifting period.

With our footprint in Asia continuing to expand, including our most recent Taiwan office opening last year, we’re well positioned to further strengthen ENVY™ apples’ brand presence and deliver high quality, year-round premium apples to consumers.

We’re pleased to share that a strong 2025 apple season has delivered improved returns for our network of Aotearoa New Zealand independent growers. Ongoing momentum across our premium ENVY™ and JAZZ™ apple brands, supported by solid global demand, has underpinned a positive result for the year.

In 2025, we expect to return $172 million to growers across ENVY™, JAZZ™ and our commercial varieties portfolio—a $34 million increase compared to last year. This reflects both the pleasing progress of our growth strategy and long-term value being generated in our Apples business.

This spring we’re celebrating 40 years of Scifresh and Scilate; the breakthrough cultivars that became our premium apple brands JAZZ™ and ENVY™.

Over the years, we’ve grown these brands into international favourites; setting new standards for taste and quality and thriving in more than 50 markets. Their success reflects T&G’s end-to-end, disciplined approach—from superior varieties and strong IP through to orchards, partnering with the best growers, post-harvest excellence and consumer demand-building—which has helped secure the global strength and longevity of JAZZ™ and ENVY™ apples.

Originally developed in 1985 by scientists at the Bioeconomy Science Institute, these cultivars highlight the long-term innovation and collaboration that continue to shape our industry. A huge congrats to all the teams, growers and partners who’ve helped bring this milestone to life.

T&G is proud to have received the Manaaki Award alongside Hastings Health Centre and OrbitProtect Travel Insurance at the 2025 Horticulture New Zealand and RSE Conference, for our Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Health Clinic.

Launched in 2024 at our Whakatu Hawke’s Bay apples packhouse, the cross-collaborative Health Clinic is open to all 4,000 RSE workers in the region over the apple harvest period.
