Last year in Milan, Judi and I developed a mild obsession with the bags carried by the city’s most stylish women. Not a logo in sight. No obvious “it” bag. Just beautiful suede totes that looked as though they’d accompanied their owners through art galleries, markets, long lunches and perhaps a slightly glamorous train journey or two.

After a fair amount of detective work, we found them. Wonderfully soft suede, beautifully made, and with a clever zip closure that means your belongings stay where they’re supposed to (a small detail that makes all the difference).

The good news? They’re finally at Wells. If you’ve been searching for a bag that balances everyday practicality with understated elegance, come and see them for yourself. Available in a range of beautiful colours & at $249 once you pick one up, it’s very hard to put it down.

The temperature has dropped and suddenly getting dressed feels a little more complicated.

Last year in Italy, Judi and Belinda spent an entirely unreasonable amount of time in homeware shops. While others were admiring cathedrals and ordering aperitivos, the pair could usually be found debating the merits of a hand-thrown jug, inspecting table linens or trying to work out how many treasures could realistically fit into a suitcase without incurring excess baggage.

The fruits of those expeditions have started arriving at Wells this week and, frankly, we couldn’t be more delighted. Elegant oil pourers from the UK, beautiful scarves from France, and the return of one of our long-time favourites, Christian Tortu. The French master of fragrance has once again filled our shelves with scents that somehow make your home smell as though you’ve spent the weekend tending a garden in Provence rather than searching for missing school shoes and answering emails.

A little bit of England, a little bit of France, and plenty of reasons to pop into Wells this week. If beauty in the everyday is your thing, consider this your warning.

Anyone who knows us at Wells knows we have a longstanding love affair with a good scarf. It’s the simplest way to transform an outfit, the sort of gift that always lands well, and our favourite souvenir to bring home from our travels. Tucked into a suitcase, a scarf somehow carries with it a little of the place it came from.

Our latest arrival is from France: Les Belles Vagabondes. Beautifully crafted in natural fabrics, each piece feels as though it has been collected from a charming Parisian boutique. The prints are thoughtful, the colours rich, and the packaging so delightful you’ll be tempted to keep it long after the scarf has found its place in your wardrobe. Happy Mother’s Day to our mother, there is, quite simply, no one better.

She is the sort of woman who appears before you even realise you need her, endlessly caring, permanently available, impossibly supportive. A quiet force in sensible shoes and excellent tailoring.

These days she repeats the occasional story, loses the odd name halfway through a sentence, yet somehow still remembers exactly who needs help, reassurance, or simply someone beside them.

She works harder than people half her age, dresses with effortless elegance, and could still sell ice to the Southern Alps if required. Fit, healthy, polished, the last of a certain kind of woman really. The sort they do not seem to make anymore. We love ❤️ you Judi xx
