Tankar guitars is the company based in Nepal working on the field of building guitars and such musical instruments using local wood materials as far as possible considering its tonal properties. Formaly we were known by Megha Guitar Center from Jawalakhel, Lalitpur city. The guitars or so we build in Nepal are 100 percent hand made and the people who are involved in creating such instruments are N
epali Citizens. Since we have more history in guitar making than anybody in Nepal creating guitars, we have gained the experience, skills, knowlede and workmanship in wood working to create good guitars and finally we are here establishing the Tankar Guitars & Company to build guitars to its finest form. My Name is Sagun Tandukar and I am the founder of Tankar Guitars & Company. My father Late Purna Bahadur Tandukar made Nepali guitars back when I was in School attending 4-5th grade. He created guitars learning from destroying old guitar that he used to play and after several attempts he could come up with good sounding guitars. Of course he knew lots of knowledge from the guitar building books too. But he learned all the wood from his hard work and talents he had and passion to keep it on. He built thousands of guitars at that time. But the company was not formly registered nor established properly. So I had to register and establish company in a proper manner. During my father's time, he used to teach me about building guitars and transferred his knowlede and technique that he all gained in guitar building. So it has been more than 2 decades to come up to here. I nearly started guitar building for 25 years so can say have more experience than anyone in Nepal. I built the guitar when I was about 10 years old. Since then I kept on guitar making and upgrading the way of guitar making to its finest form. So here we are presenting guitars the results of 2 generations and more than 2 decades of progression of guitar building. So it is not the joke any more. We have established our bechmark of guitar building Nepal. And this is the benchmark for Nepal. But this does not mean we have done in guitar building, we always keep on upgrading our guitar in a most modern way to have the guitar in its finest form. I named the company Tankar Guitars & Company. The 'Tankar' name itself comes from the family name 'Tandukar' after removing d and u letters from it. The 'Tankar' also means the sound when the string is struck hard. And both the meaning urges me to name Tankar because it has the perfect meaning of sound of string that we(Tandukar) create. And the company refers to the friends, partners, family members, relatives, wellwishers, customers that helped me establshing this Company.
