At least we have a guest for you. Audrey .slacks
She makes gorgeous patches out of reclaimed denim 😍
We are so excited to introduce her today.

Hi! I’m Audrey of Sensible Slacks. I live in Detroit, MI, USA. I love remaking clothing, finding ways to reduce fabric waste and extending the life of my favorite items. I’ve also always been fascinated with embroidery and watching a piece come together. Sensible Slacks grew out of these interests.

Sensible Slacks focuses mostly on denim, patchwork and embroidery. I create handmade patches from reused denim. I like to do a variety of shapes, but the star shape is my favorite. Once I have the patches, I use them to repair damaged vintage jeans, or sell them individually so that people can incorporate them into their own repairs.

Lately, I’ve been adding hand embroidery to the finished patches. I like the idea of adding layers of detail that will combine to fully personalize an item.

I love looking at Mending Mayhem and seeing the variety of possibilities within mending. I’m excited for this chance to introduce myself- thanks so much for reading! Please feel free to get in touch. As always, looking forward to seeing everyone’s work.

Today we have the pleasure of introducing Rita
She's inspiring us with her lovely eco art. Grab your self a cupa and enjoy.
Happy weekend everyone 🪡🧵❣️

I am a Canadian-born eco artist living and working in the island state of Tasmania. I discovered eco printing and dyeing in 2008 and I create as ethically as I can. I find and reinvent vintage and preloved clothing, fabrics and other materials with natural dyes, paints made from the earth and deconstruction techniques, allowing them to inspire my work. Stitching is integral to my work - not only does it add texture and another visual layer, but it has been instrumental in my recovery from cancer and helping me to cope during other difficult times in my life! This poem, written some years ago, expresses the importance (to me) of allowing the creative process to flow:

‘art is like breathing to me - life and thoughts impressed on paper, cloth, the air; fleeting sounds and images captured before they escape forever’

Rounding up the past week of mending with our collage. So many different ways to mend, and so much inspiration 😍
Do you mend your underwear? I do, but not too keen on posting it. 🤣🤣

So happy to present Cherie today. She's so clever using every tiny bit of materials, and her artwork is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us Cherie ❣️🧵

Hi friends of MM, I would like to thank Katrine and Anette for making this group accessible to all of us.

I am Cherie and have posted here previously, this time I will concentrate on talking about my textile scrap use.

I have always used scraps in many ways such as: Clothing, artworks, cushions, placemats, bags, hats, quilts, patches and in repairs.

Most of what I use is thrifted, there are a few charity shops I visit and have found a wide variety of threads and fabric pieces to keep me busy.

I also started saving my scrap threads during the pandemic when we were encouraged to stay at home and now I do it automatically. Once enough threads have accumulated I decide what to make with them.

Image 1. Work in progress using scrap threads and fabrics, which will end up being a small quilt.
Image 2. Recently completed scrap wall hanging.
Image 3. Linen and cotton scrap quilt.
Image 4. Three cushions made with scrap fabrics.
Image 5 & 6. Two scrap quilts made for my two granddaughters.

Reuse is a wonderful resource and I created to encourage others to embrace up-cycling of textiles as we continue to discuss ways to slow down climate change.

Thank you for taking the time to view my work

Time for some winter clothes repair. Her highness wasn't very happy with the wide neckline of her new winter suit. [actually she wasn't happy with the suit at all 🤣🤣🤣 but she doesn't like to be cold either] I hand sewed a piece of bias on the back side of the neckline and put a elastic into it adding a spring buckle in each end for easy adjustment. At least it fit even if her highness wasn't happy.
Mr Mayhem came with a pair of socks in need of a little life extension. I forgot to take a picture. Jr Mayhem also has a problem with his winter overall. The seam was ripped in the crotch. Also I fixed the hem.
I managed to get a few darns done, trying to keep the wool trousers together. Just a few more and it will be good as new. 😊🪡🧵

Today it's Kyndall who will inspire you with her story and her outstanding mending ❤️🪡
We are so honoured you offered to be today's guest. Welcome Kyndall ❣️🧵🪡

Hi! I’m Kyndall and I live in Oregon in the US. I started mending in 2019 when my favorite jeans ripped and I wanted to keep wearing them. A friend pointed me towards sashiko mending on Instagram and I was hooked!

What started as a way to keep my favorite jeans alive became a huge part of my life. I now get to help other people keep wearing their most favorite clothes!

I’m grateful to be part of such a warm, welcoming, and thoughtful community! I learn so much from all of you and am continually inspired by your mends! 💚

Kermit covering a big tear in my winter jacket. As I had a accident getting stuck on some metal. Luckily I remember Kermit, some one donated him to me. Original a part of a kids t-shirt. I think he blends well with the rest of the patches While I was mending I stitched together a hole next to the pocket. I'll put a patch over later on.
A logo removal from a passed on to me jacket. I was planning to use it around the farm, but maybe to pretty now 🤣🐶
Still need to patch a hole and remove the small logo on the front.
Jr Mayhem had a zipper emergency... So no procrastinating. And I got a good review, as it was so much better than the original.🧵🪡
Just luck of course.

I think it's a good start to the weekend presenting a new guest. Nancy .ave
has such a creative take on mending.
It's a lot of inspiration here for a new cool fix.
Happy weekend everyone and a warm welcome to Nancy 🪡❣️

I’ve been obsessed with mending, upcycling and waste pretty much my whole life. I come from thrifty Midwestern stock-we reuse/fix everything. My grandmother used to unravel sweaters to make new. She taught me to sew on a Pfaff machine that I still use.

After a long career as an art director, I started visibly mending and upcycling used clothes, combining my love of fashion, collage and zero waste. My designs are crafted from street finds, embellished and fixed up with inventory from years of thrifting, scavenging and grandmother’s leftovers. I call my technique clothing collage because I cover flaws with a myriad of materials, visibly mend and combine damaged pieces. I love clashing fabrics and unexpected juxtapositions.

What I love about upcycling, craftism, and visible mending in particular, is the spontaneity. One never knows how a garment will evolve. Visible mending by design is imperfect. As a craftivist, I go one step further, embracing flaws with embellishments and cheeky patching, shouting “Hey, cool fix here!.”

I thought since everyone else was so clever doing their I'll just skip this time. Just joking I actually did my Monday mending but failed to post yesterday. A few new darns to my wool trousers a lot of sock darning as my was loaded with socks. And I fixed the broken bag I use for carrying firewood again. I found more mending in the laundry as well, so a few items out of the pile and a few went into the pile. I have heard it's important to keep a good balance to your life 🧵🪡

Today's guest Niels was the very first guest we had when we first started Mendingmayhem. We are so honoured to have him back as today's guest. Whit his artistic overalls. Thank you so much Niels 🙏🏻

Hello everybody, thanks Katrine for letting me presenting myself

I am Niels, probably better known as bibprofessor, my account was unfortunately hacked, really irritating and frustrating, but I have a new one
I am an old retired professor, living in a small farmhouse in Denmark and I live almost 24/7 in my old overalls, preferring really worn out overalls with a lot of holes and dirty spots after being used for years by other people who have worked their a... off but I have also several pairs, I have worn out myself from being very blue to very faded blue. Sometimes I cannot wait for the overalls to be "distressed", then I put them out in a lake or in a forest and let the worms and other creatures in the soil to eat a bit of the overalls and then take them up and mend them and make them into a kind of overallsart! I see myself as a kind of overalls artist, understanding overalls as my canvas, my needle as my brush and the thread as my color pigment.
All this I could not have done without instagram and especially not without my two overalls sisters, Evelyn and Kriss .again We don't have our individual overalls as my overalls and your overalls. We are an overallsart collective, sharing all the overalls. We are sending them back and forth to each other, wearing them, adding some mending on them etc. In this way, we are realizing the global mending village literally, just like Katrine does. Another one who has contributed to this global mending village is Erin who initiated the mendandmakefriends project 3-4 years ago when people made patches and send them to one another. We have some international overalls with patches from many different parts of the world.
I love wild coffee, having coffee out in the open air, no matter the weather, wearing the wild coffee overalls.

It's been perfect mending weather all week. Even with my excellent ability to procrastinate any mending involving zippers. There was just no more excuses to not finish Mr Mayhems jacket zipper. A lot of pins 📍🧵later and Mr Mayhem is very happy to be able to close his jacket once again. Unfortunately walking the dogs today I discovered her highness jacket zipper was coming loos too 🤐🤐 lucky it didn't require a zipper change just a few stitches. Her highness wasn't really happy to have her jacket mended though, she is not fond of getting dressed. But she's not happy about being cold either 🤣
I was very happy to get my well worn socks back in circulation. A bit of darning and the are ready to use. All the red one is new. I have also working on the very comfy woolen trousers, but forgot to take photos 🙊
So that pretty much sums up my mending week.
Still there are plenty of items in need of mending in my
But luckily reduce it a bit every week.

Today the autumn break starts in our part of Norway. Today's guest Lee on the other hand is having spring. Not sure if there is any spring break though?
We are so happy to have Lee back as our Friday guest. I do admire her amazing quilting and often find great inspiration from her work. And she's definitely resourceful using what she already have.
Many thanks for sharing your work with us Lee ❣️

My name is Lee and I post random makes

I like many ways of stitching and source most of my materials by thrifting or repurposing….

Quilting is as important to me as mending is … both occupy my hand and mind productively

A quilt may mean more to someone I gift it to but my heart feels just as full, if not more, to see my mending being worn

Thankfully the art of making do with what I have has always amused me. I loved to pattern test for some amazing designers but changes in circumstances have dwindled the supply of materials to do so

However, I can stitch on ….
Turning Umbrellas into hair care caps,
Scraps and clothing into scrappy quilts, and scrappy quilt blocks into bags fur example

Skinny strips of anything can be utilised in many ways
Horrid stretchy denim scraps from refashioning clothing become toys
The remainder of net curtaining once used for costume appliqué was all used up in bunting
All decent lengths of thread ends are used for basting or slow stitching things like books and scrolls

Joy is finding a use for any small piece so I may continue to create

Thanks for the opportunity to guest post

If you’ve read this far and would like to be a guest too, do reach out - we are all really happy to meet you 💕

Happy Wednesday 🌻🧵🪡
It's definitely autumn here, the temperature are getting lower and it's raining. Mr Mayhem is hoping I'll finish installing his jacket zipper, he might get lucky if I don't find something more interesting to mend. I have been making some patchwork from fabric scraps that I have so much fun with so I might be tempted to do some more 🤫
I'm so happy to see so many remembered to use the along with our regular 🙏🏻

Jeans button fixed, didn't take more than a few minutes. I used more time finding the button box and decided witch button to use 🙊😜 most of you seemed to like the one with the red inside better, but I didn't think it was strong enough for jeans. So I went with the metal button in the end.
I found my lovely and very comfy wool trousers as I think it's almost season and the are in need of some mending. I found them second hand. I bought them even if I know the wool isn't very good quality. Just because they are so comfy and I do know how to mend.
Mr Mayhems jacket is still with out a zipper, it's waiting for a rainy day.
But all our outdoor furniture are safely put away for autumn storms and winter.
What's in your ?
Still lot's and lots of socks left in mine. Luckily seems to reduce the pile a bit.

Almost weekend, and it's time for another guest. If you are interested in being our guest writer feel free to DM us.
Today's guest Brittney .allaneous a very special mending project she's working on.
Thank you for sharing your work with us 🧵🪡

I just started repairing a sweater my partner's grandma made.
It's pretty special, she was born in Norway in 1899,and made it for his dad.
I was born in Canada in 1993, and it blew my mind that I was working to reinforce stitches that she had made. In examining this cardigan, I noticed she stitched her buttons just like I do, how she didn't weave in all of her ends, just like me, and how neatly she sewed the whole thing together. I feel honoured to be adding my stitches on to hers. I've repaired the elbows and cuffs, and just have to find the perfect button to replace the one that was lost!
