Explaining myself is asking for acceptance. Only I need to accept myself and what I am doing for my addiction recovery.⠀
⠀
This isn't meant to be a malicious action, mind you. Your intent needs to be of integrity, humility, and gratitude. But if you find yourself explaining why you need to go to this meeting, eat this way, do this, that, or the other - you do not have to justify why you need to focus on yourself.⠀
⠀
I used to placate everyone around me. I used to just nod my head as they did things I wasn't a fan of because heaven forbid they ask me to stop behaving or doing something I was doing.⠀
⠀
Basically, I would let others do whatever the hell they wanted around me in the hopes they would give me the same courtesy. Did they, not always, but I could certainly throw it back at them if they didn't.⠀
⠀
I don't, and you don't, live that way anymore. People can do whatever they want but I do not have to accept it. I can remove myself from the situation. So can you.⠀
⠀
We don't have to explain ourselves when we take actions that are for our betterment.⠀
⠀
Now - if you come sneaking into the house at 3 am or leave someone at the restaurant waiting for you for an hour - yeah, you're gonna have to explain that behavior.⠀
⠀
So meet your words with your actions and congruency will follow - and you should have a lot less for people to ask you to explain.⠀
