Recently married, my husband and I took a leap of faith and bought a plot of land to build a house that we dreamed would become our 'family home'. When we thought about what we wanted, I knew I needed a reading nook... I dreamed of a space where I would read stories to my children and together we'd go on the magical adventures on which only stories can take you.
We never ended up with a physical 'nook', but from the first day I held my baby girl we started our read aloud adventure. We've been to the Hundred Acre Wood, on top of the Magic Faraway Tree, on a Rickshaw in Durban, South Africa, on a journey to reunite two sisters in the Kenyan night sky and everywhere in between. Together our love for books grew and she will never let a day pass without settling down to read with me - no matter our moods, the hustle and bustle of everyday life or even the birth of her little brother. These moments have been some of my favourite.
After another leap of faith and immigrating to the Netherlands, we struggled to find affordable English books to fill up our home library. We decided to start a little family business to bring the same joy to other families at affordable prices. My husband immediately said, "It must be called The Book Nook... you'll finally get the nook you always wanted!"
So The Book Nook was born.
