Last week we received our new shoes.
Our old ones were in the stolen trailer so unfortunately we had to get new ones.

I contacted Reenactment-Bedarf- Andreas Helfert and he accepted my order. Birka shoes for Cecilia and me, and standard (Viking)shoes for the boys. My previous pair was also from him, and his quality is just outstanding.

In little than a month we have our first event, the international Viking market at Archeon and now we’re one step closer to have our outfits ready for the go!

Our sewing yarn is now available on wooden bobbins.
We’re starting with the essentials: wool, silk and linen — undyed.

The bobbins are hand‑made and have a wonderfully historical look.

Alongside the natural versions, we’ll soon add plant‑dyed wool and silk yarn to the collection.

I started sewing clothes again. A nice job for quiet hours. Headphone on and go!
Because I didn’t sew anything for a few years, I started with something easy. I ended up with making three cloaks/mantles.
Of course I sewed everything by hand, using our sewing yarn!

First I started with a big red one with squares. Because they are rectangular I had to turn the fabric and sew two pieces together. That way the squares are vertical worn which looks better. Second a small mantle size simple square piece. I used a madder and rhubarb dyed fabric. And third a child (6-8 yo) size mantle with slight curves on bottom side. For this I used our latest plain weave wool white 230g. A very versatile fabric, medium light weight. I also dyed it orange with rhubarb root and madder, but in a different ratio. As you can see both fabrics are exellent to dye. I just recommend to always wash carded wool fabric before dyeing. Carded wool could contain lanoline here and there what causes flecks when dyeing. (At 40 degrees, wool program, normal detergent)

Soon we will also sew some new dresses and tunics to be worn at our coming markets in may!

We’re back home 😊

We were lucky to travel between two snowfall periods. Last night the Dutch main roads were clean, however we could see it has been snowing quite a bit here.
This morning we woke up and noticed a fresh pack of snow has fallen.
We aim to ship all orders from last week tomorrow, provided we can safely reach our shop ❄️ 🥶

It was funny, we went to Hungary and expected snow there, but instead Old Man Winter has paid the Netherlands a proper visit.

Last day of 2025!

We look back at a year with mixed emotions.

We attended several nice markets, made good business and expanded our range of products. Especially on the handwoven part. This is also where we want to lay our main focus.
Handwoven, hand dyed with plants, just like it was done in History.
Pure quality textiles, also good for environment and as close to the original finds as possible.

At the same time we have to replace a lot of market equipment which we lost when our trailer got stolen last October.
We lost more stuf than we first thought. As I write this for example, we have just finished measuring our feet to get us all a new pair of shoes. Luckily we know all the right places to get the best possible quality.
Also we will take some time to sew ourselves some new clothes, and actually that’s something I look forward to do.
I think I have some nice ideas ánd know where to get them ;)
We will do our best to be fully ready for season 2026!

For now, we’re on a short holiday to visit family in Hungary.

It’s been a while since you heard from us.

Partly we were busy with all day things like preparing the house and garden for winter. It needed some extra attention this year.

On the other hand we worked behind the scene of our shop.
The webshop needs maintanance, newly aquired items arranged and tested.
We always test the fabrics so we know that what we say actually is just what it is.
Things like dyeability and recommended usage does not come along with the roll of fabric from the weaver. That’s often something we have to determine.
Also we occasionally get requests for certain plant-dyed colours of leg wraps and fabrics. We love to do that too!
This year again we have supplied several Musea and also a filmset with our Classic Fabrics :)

A clear sign I believe that we are doing things right 💪🏼

We would like to offer a wide variety in our webshop, not only to be used in historical context but also at home.
These mantles/throws/small blankets are a good example of this.
As versatile as they are, they fit well on your couch or bed but also around your shoulder during an event. In the evening when it’s not so warm and also in spring and autumn or winter.

A mantle hand woven, fringed by the hand ánd plantdyed. Only completely self-made could possibly surpass this.
Each and every piece is unique, the colour is never exactly the same and sometimes rare beautiful teints appear from the dyepot.

Soon it will be Christmas. This would be a perfect warm gift in case you had nothing in mind yet ;)

We have something special now in our shop:
Handwoven silk!
Pure mulberry silk in a plain weave. It shines marvellous, it feels a bit crisp in the hand and is of a not see through thickness, which makes it great to use for modern day garment such as underwear, shirt or (wedding)dress. But of course you can imagine the use of this for historical garments as well. The possibilities are endless!
Due to its slight sturdiness the fabric drapes accordingly. The body is sufficient heavy so long lengths will also drape nice. But just not as smooth as pongee would do.

Did I already mention this pure silk takes (natural)colour perfectly? I already did two tests, one with madder and the other rhubarb root. Both colours stunning deep and saturated!
I will show the results later in a comment below this post.

We have only ten meters available for now, but rest assured, we will get more before the winter is over!
