Britney Spears performed on Saturday Night Live on May 13, 2000, singing Oops I Did It Again and Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know from her second album. At just 18 years old, she was already one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

During Oops I Did It Again, the performance relied partly on backing tracks because of the intense choreography and constant movement on stage. For the slower track, her vocals came through much more clearly and felt closer to fully live.

At the time, live autotune wasn’t really common in performances like this. Most artists depended more on backing vocals and prerecorded layers rather than real time vocal effects.

During a 2015 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ariana Grande took part in the show’s “Wheel of Musical Impressions” segment, where guests sing random songs while impersonating different artists.

Grande performed The Wheels on the Bus while imitating singers like Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Celine Dion, switching styles and vocal tones throughout the game.

The clip quickly went viral and became one of the show’s most viewed moments, largely because of how accurately she recreated each singer’s voice and mannerisms.

In 1978, Bobby Caldwell released What You Won’t Do for Love, a smooth soul track that led many listeners to assume he was Black based on his voice alone. At the time, concerns about racial bias in radio and marketing influenced how the album was presented.

To keep the focus on the music rather than Caldwell’s appearance, the cover artwork avoided clearly showing him, instead using a silhouette style image. When audiences later discovered he was white, many were surprised because the song had already become closely associated with R&B and soul radio.

The approach ultimately helped the track reach a wide audience across R&B, pop, and adult contemporary formats, and the song has remained one of the most recognizable soul releases of its era.

Ack Värmeland, du sköna is a traditional Swedish folk song that has been performed for generations and remains one of Sweden’s most recognizable melodies. It’s often associated with cultural events and folk performances throughout the country.

In this version, Wolfgang Saus performs the song using overtone singing, a vocal technique where one person can produce two tones at the same time. By controlling airflow and carefully shaping the mouth, he creates a deep base note along with a higher whistle like melody without using instruments or effects.

The result gives the performance an almost unreal sound, making it seem as if multiple voices are singing together. Wolfgang Saus is widely known for his work with overtone singing and for introducing the technique to a broader audience.

Chad Smith, best known as the drummer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, appeared in a Drumeo video where he listened to a Bring Me The Horizon song for the first time and immediately started playing along on drums.

Even without hearing the track beforehand, he quickly locked into the rhythm, tempo, and structure of the song while adding his own feel through changes in dynamics and timing. Instead of simply copying what he heard, he naturally shaped the performance in a way that sounded confident and controlled.

The video gained attention online because it highlighted the level of instinct and musical awareness experienced musicians develop over years of playing, showing how quickly someone like Chad Smith can understand and adapt to a completely unfamiliar track.

In 1990, Phil Collins performed Easy Lover live at the Waldbühne amphitheater in Berlin during his Seriously, Live! tour. The performance captured the massive open air atmosphere of the venue, with Collins delivering the song’s fast paced energy alongside his full touring band.

Originally released in 1984 as a collaboration with Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire, Easy Lover had already become one of Collins’ biggest live songs by that point. The Berlin concert later became part of Serious Hits… Live!, a performance Collins himself described as one of the strongest of the tour, helped by the energy in Berlin shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Phil Collins returned to his drum kit in later appearances despite longstanding health issues that limited his ability to play. Following a spinal injury in 2007, he experienced nerve damage that affected his hands, reducing his grip strength and preventing him from performing on drums at his previous level. He also developed mobility issues, including difficulty standing for extended periods.

Collins retired from live touring after the Genesis The Last Domino? Tour with Genesis, during which he performed seated and did not play drums. Drum duties on the tour were handled by his son, Nic Collin.

John Fogerty performed Have You Ever Seen the Rain live on Conan O’Brien’s show in a spontaneous acoustic moment.

Handed a guitar on the spot, he played the song solo while joking with Conan and the audience, giving it a relaxed, unscripted feel rather than a typical performance.

The song comes from his time with Creedence Clearwater Revival in the early 1970s, written during a period when the band was starting to fall apart.
