In addition to producing honey and pollinating flowers, bees have other interesting abilities. For example, did you know that honeybees use a dance to tell their fellow bees where to find the best flowers? This dance is called the "bee dance" and is one of the most fascinating communication methods in the animal kingdom.

Furthermore, bees are very intelligent insects capable of recognizing and remembering different shapes. Scientists have discovered that bees can even learn which flowers they have previously collected nectar from and avoid those flowers when they discover there is no more nectar.

Also, bees have a built-in compass in their bodies that allows them to know where the sun rises and sets. This helps them return to their bee colony after collecting nectar and pollen. All of these fascinating facts about bees make it clear how important these small insects are to our planet.

Meet the Beehive - Makana Movement

My name is Izaac Kaitjily. Owner and Personal trainer. By now 12 years of working experience in the sports industry. Passionate about strength training. Healthy exercise and living is central to my life. Therefore I work on the fitness of the body as well as the strength of the mind.

"Sustainable thinking/acting and awareness, understanding your own body, knowing what and why you make certain choices in given situations. That is the way to real results and that puts you in control of your own life."

At Makana, being fit means finding your balance of mental strength, rich nutrition and healthy exercise. That's what we believe. That's what we work on. Being fit, according to our belief, is an individual result. So it can differ per person. That is why our personal coaching in Maastricht is the basis. Together with you, we will search for the most optimal version of yourself.

Makana is not a traditional fitness studio in Maastricht. We are a movement. We keep moving continuously because we do not believe in one vision or one way of doing things. We challenge ourselves to look for the best fitting solutions to find the balance between the three forces (mindset, nutrition and movement) together with you. That means we move between visions and disciplines, training routines and experiments, outdoor and indoor training. We are guided by what is needed.

Benefits of cacao/cocoa:

Cacao nibs are small pieces of crushed cacao beans — or cocoa beans — that have a bitter, chocolatey flavor. Unlike many chocolate products, cacao nibs are naturally low in sugar. Cacao nibs are highly nutritious, providing an impressive amount of fiber, healthy fats, minerals, and plant compounds like flavonoids. In fact, cocoa and chocolate products have the highest flavonoid content by weight of any other food. Research shows that people who consume diets rich in flavonoids have lower rates of heart disease, certain cancers, and mental decline. Because of these anti-oxidants, cacao nibs and other cocoa products have powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It is then also no accident that cacao has been shown to reduce heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure and cholesterol levels in human studies.

Today, it is Eat Your Vegetables Day! On this day, we celebrate the age-old wisdom of our parents and grandparents: eating vegetables is essential for a healthy and balanced diet. Vegetables are not only rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber, but they also offer a wide range of health benefits. They help strengthen our immune system, protect against chronic diseases, make us feel satisfied & prevent continuous feeling of hunger and promote healthy digestion. So on this day, let's reflect on the importance of vegetables and celebrate them as the nutritious treasures they are!

It is shocking to know that in the Netherlands the average person consumes only 58 kilos of vegetables per year (158 grams/day), which is the lowest compared to other countries. In Europe, Croatia ranks No. 1, where people eat an average of 302 kilos of vegetables per year. That's a whopping 827 grams of vegetables per day! This shows that there is room for improvement when it comes to our vegetable consumption.

A few concrete examples to easily get extra vegetables is to put leafy spinach or other dark vegetables on your sandwich. You can also easily eat a carrot, bell bell pepper or half a cucumber with your sandwich. Finally, within two minutes in a frying pan you have fried a 300 grams of spinach vegetables. This is especially tasty with some lemon! This will quickly get you an extra 200-400 grams of vegetables per day.

Hi, I am Jennifer Penners, mother of 2 girls Dunya (6) and Farah (5) and I am extremely interested in everything at beauty and health related.

I started Skinics & Brows. in 2016 and still work in my business with great pleasure and passion. Skinics is a salon focused on skin improvement where I take a holistic and orthomolecular view. This means that I don't just treat the outside, but look for deeper causes of skin aging, skin problems and hormone-related complaints. I look at nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and the right skin care products.

The products I work with are of course organic. I always look at who is behind a product. Who developed the product and with what intention? This very often says something about the quality of the products. For example, in the area of skincare I work with Eminence, this is a natural skincare brand that uses organic ingredients and collaborates with the power of nature. Flowers, plants and herbs are hand-picked and processed without heating processes so that the nutritional value remains optimal and the products do not lose their medicinal properties.

In the orthomolecular field, I work with Sckin nutrition, which is a brand that makes supplements aimed at skin improvement. It is designed by an orthomolecular therapist, which means that the deeper causes are also addressed. Not just a supplement with collagen for example, but 20 other substances are added to ensure better bowel function and absorption for example. This allows me to distinguish myself, partly because of my own orthomolecular background I am fairly choosy in the brands I work with.

Recently I also started working with Bee. Bee has pleasantly surprised me because it contains high-quality ingredients with a very high nutritional value. It remains difficult in these busy times to get enough nutrients and variety without too much processing. With Bee, I hope to support my clients in healthy meal choices. Bread is often taken because it requires little preparation and is easy to take away. With Bee you have both less work and more energy: win-win.

We hope that this month of fasting, prayer, and reflection has been a time of spiritual renewal and growth for you. As you celebrate Eid, we wish you all the best for the months ahead, filled with renewed energy and excitement.

We also want to take a moment to acknowledge the health benefits of fasting. By practicing this, your body becomes better adapted to intermittent fasting, which has been shown to have numerous health benefits. By incorporating fasting into your routine, you may be able to extend the positive effects of your hard work during Ramadan.

Once again, congratulations on completing this holy month, and we wish you a joyful Eid celebration. May Allah's blessings always be with you!

Fun facts about bees

Bees are incredibly hardworking insects that play a vital role in our ecosystem. Did you know that during its lifetime, a honeybee produces about 1/12 teaspoon of honey? That may not seem like much, but when you consider that it takes thousands of bees to make a jar of honey, it's truly impressive. In addition, bees can fly up to 24 km per hour, which is much faster than most humans can run! And if you've ever seen a bee colony, you may know that the division of labor within the colony is divided between the queen, workers, and drones. The queen is responsible for laying eggs, while the workers do everything from collecting nectar and pollen to building the honeycomb and caring for the larvae. Male bees, or drones, have the sole task of fertilizing the queen and do not have a stinger, making them unable to defend themselves against predators.

Sesame seeds are packed with health benefits. Not only are they rich in fiber, but they're also full of important minerals like magnesium and calcium, and certain B vitamins that can help lower blood pressure, improve bone health, and boost energy levels.

And if that wasn't enough, sesame seeds also contain lignans and phytosterols, two plant compounds that can lower cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation in the body. So, the next time you're looking for a healthy snack, grab a handful of roasted, peeled sesame seeds to give your body the fiber, protein, and minerals it needs to thrive. Just 30 grams of these tiny seeds provide 12% of your daily fiber needs - essential for a healthy digestive system - and 5 grams of protein. So feel free to sprinkle some sesame seeds on your salads, stir-fries, or snacks for a delicious and nutritious boost!

Skipping breakfast reduces later performance in resistance exercises, according to an article published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research in July 2019. If you plan to go to the gym, especially if you plan to lift weights, it is important to have had a good breakfast.

In the study, 16 men who regularly lift weights were studied. The group was divided into two, with one group receiving a large breakfast and the other receiving only water and no food. About two hours later, the weightlifters were asked to do four sets of barbell squats and bench presses until they couldn't do any more. Each set was done with 90% of each person's 10-rep max. What the scientists discovered was that the weightlifters who had breakfast completed a higher number of repetitions in both the barbell squat and bench press.

Of course, it is important to allow some time between eating and exercising, otherwise your body will still be digesting food and this can lead to a poorer performance.
