So this is it. Tomorrow the 21st of September will be the last day you can visit our shop. After tomorrow we will close our doors forever. 😢

Dear friends, customers and neighbours,

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I have to inform you we are going to close the shop on the 21st of September… permanently.

It’s been an amazing 7 years and we’ve had one hell of a ride together. Long conversations, laughter, jokes, tears and above all lots and lots of great books!

Behind the scenes, it’s been a struggle to keep the shop going through a myriad of obstacles and events we have no control over. The renovation of the V&D building, construction work on our building, the corona pandemic, the energy crisis and the increase in all costs are just some examples. We’ve been able to keep things going, but at great cost to my personal savings and income.

Looking ahead there’s another tidal wave coming directly in our direction. They are starting a 2 year renovation of the V&D building soon. This means, noise, dirt, dust and other forms of nuisance. We know from experience this will lead to a dramatic decline in revenue and this time we are not sure we’ll manage to stay afloat.

A decision was imminent. Either keep on going and hope for the best or, knowing better, plan for the worst. We made the choice to close the shop. A heartbreaking decision that hasn’t been easy for us. It’s never easy to end something you’ve poured your heart and soul into for the most of 7 years. Huijsing books is not just a physical space, but a space built for and with our family and customers, a shop, but also a safe place filled with love, life, people and of course many great books.

We would like to thank each and every one of you for joining us in our love for books, stories, news, laughter and most of all …people in all their wonderful and idiotic ways! Thanks you for buying our books, drinking our coffee, the discussions, sharing our struggles and celebrating life. Huijsing Books couldn’t have been the same without all of you. My eyes just filled up with tears writing this, God I had such a blast with all of you!
