SANTOOR
Santoor (also spelled as Santour or Santur) is the Persian dulcimer played with two light hammers (mezrâb) by striking the strings. Santoor’s origin goes a long way back until the ancient Babylonian and neo-Assyrian eras. Santoor’s contemporary versions are used in Iran, its neighbouring countries and in Greece. It occupies an important place in the traditional Iranian orchestra.
Santoor has a case made of walnut wood in the shape of a trapeze. The strings are fixed to the pins on both sides, you can tune santoor with the metal wrest-pins on the right. Santoor has a great melodic potential, 27 different notes can be played on this instrument. Its attractive sharp sound full of harmonics carries you away.

KAMANCHEH
Persian Kamancheh (Kamanche or Kamancha) is a highly esteemed instrument of Persian music. It captures the listeners with its moving sound. Persian Kamancheh is used for light music and it is the only bowed string instrument in the classical tradition of Iran. It produces a soft, beautiful timbre and due to their technical possibilities, they can be used as a solo and also an ensemble instrument. Kamancheh is a spike fiddle with a solid bowl made of walnut or maple. There are four strings on it, namely E, A, D and G.

TANBOOR
Tanboor or Tanbour (which can be spelled as tambour or tamboor) is the long-necked lute of Persia and today it is popular in Western Iran. Tanboor is used either in folk or classical music of Iran. Persian tanboor has a larger bowl than setar and it has two steel strings (three when the higher string is doubled). Tanboor is played by using all of the fingers of the right hand. Its bowl is made of mulberry wood or Walnut. it has a wooedn soundboard and the neck is in general of walnut wood. Tanboor has 14 gut frets which are arranged chromatically. This instrument is used only in sacred music; therefore, it has a different repertory.

Persian Daf is a frame drum found in many cultures and countries such as Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Iran, Turkey, Greece etc. The daf in our store is Persian. It has a clangorous as well as cheerful sound. It has different sizes and it appears with or without metallic rings. SETAR
Setar is one of the truest, the most characteristic instrument of Persian traditional music. It is a small lute, played with a flat pick. Setar is like a western mandolin but with a longer neck. This instrument originally had three strings. However it has changed through time, now it has four strings and its frets vary between 22 to 28. Setar is played with the index finger’s long nail. When it is strummed, it gives the melody and drone together. Setar has a soft timbre but sometimes it can become loud and vigorous. Setar instrument is an ancient instrument of Persian classical music.

The setar belongs to the tanbur family, but today it is very close to the tar in terms of playing method, shape of the handle and techniques.

TOMBAK
The rhythm of Persian traditional music is set by Persian drums. Tombak (or tonbak) is one of these drums and our catalogue includes a wide range of tombak. Tombak is a percussion instrument under the membraphone family. It is also known “Zarb” which means beat. It is a goblet-shaped, wooden drum with a richer sound compared to the frame drums. They are mostly used in folk and entertainment music. The drum is made from a single block of walnut, ash or mulberry wood. The skin stretched on the top may be goatskin, camel skin, calfskin etc.
The tombak is normally positioned diagonally across the torso while the player uses one or more fingers and/or the palm(s) of the hand(s) on the drumhead, often (for a ringing timbre) near the drumhead’s edge.

The Iranian Tar is a stringed instrument from the Rabab family. It is a double-chested plucked, long-necked lute. Its membrane serves as a soundtable which give the tar a clear and resonant timbre. It has a figure 8 shape, its bowl is carved of mulberry wood. Tar’s fingerboard is interesting in terms of being covered with bone. The twenty-five movable frets dividing the octave into 15 intervals make tar a special instrument. Tar is played in folk music of Iran, used in urban entertainments (motrebi), but it is also associated with art music. Tar possesses the same tonal range with setar.
