Neptune Store stops offering PayPal as payment method.
PayPal: paying without a card reader, pin code or scanner. We understood this advantage and for this reason we offered PayPal as a payment method in an early stage.
PayPal charged a net 2.4% commission of the amount. A year ago, PayPal unilaterally changed the conditions without being able to find out what exactly changed: if you give a refund, the seller was not refunded the commission. We accidentally found out about this change a year later. Refunding often happens: because someone changed his mind, because we wanted to provide service or a guarantee, because a product was not available for a long time, etc. This added up on a yearly basis and we thought the principle was wrong.
We had discussions with PayPal (after we had to go through a lot of trouble to get hold of someone within PayPal) and unfortunately without any real results. We then decided to slowly phase out PayPal in countries where other widely used online payment methods were available.
Last week a customer returned a product. The product was used and damaged the customer said. We received the product and found out that the serial number had been removed from the box. The product in the box had a serial number from 2017, it was not purchased from us and not delivered to us by the supplier. We tested the product and it appears to be defective. We checked the camera footage of our packing tables and we saw that we have sent a new closed box with a serial number on it to this customer. We rejected the RMA.
Then a PayPal dispute comes in. We explained the issue to PayPal, sent photos and screenshots along with the supplier's declaration. The case was clear and we were confident of a good outcome. Two days later PayPal assigns the claim to the customer, without calling us, without consultation, without requesting other evidence or information. We lost more than € 450, we did not get our commission back and we had to pay € 14 dispute costs.
This way of working offers fraudsters opportunities at the expense of reliable companies with a good reputation. That is wrong in principle, it does not fit with the philosophy of our company and therefore we have decided to stop offering PayPal altogether.
