🔴 KARLITO'S LISTENING CORNER 🔴

Some big classics on the menu for tomorrows listening corner. Also 2 weeks in a row Sonny Clark. With this time probably one of the most iconic jazz covers.

• COOL STRUTTIN' • Sonny Clark • 1958
Recorded at Van Gelders "home" slash studio. A livingroom builded as a recording studio. Clark was widely respected amongst musicians but didnt get the big fame. At the age of 31 he passed away too young. Rumour goes that the legs on the cover photo where from Clarks girlfriend... guess we will never know! Feels like the band is playing live , when listening on the Altecs :)

• FAT JAZZ • Jackie McLean • 1959
Jazz that swings, a beautiful mix of the sharp alt sound combined with the tuba. Jackie was not only an artist. He also founded the jazz program of the University of Hartford.

• MODERN ART • Art Farmer • 1958
The lyric trumpetist Farmer gives us a very sophisticated and filmic sound on this album. Farmer was a briljant trumpetist without the big ego or macho personality.

I asked our jazzcat to select 3 records for tomorrows listening corner. So he took out some of his many favorites. Starting with this West Coast hard bop by tenor saxophonist Harold Land. This was his debut studio album.

• LEAPIN' AND LOPIN' • Sonny Clark • 1961
Omar's latest find at
Jazzpianist Sonny Clark, his last album on lead before his passing the year following.

• ARRUDA, ALFAZEMA E GUINÉ • Alvaro Lancellotti • 2024
This one is very dear to my heart. Since we saw Alvaro live in basement performance in collaboration with . Very touching performance and this album is stunning from beginning till end. Love to share this with you.

• A LA IZQUIERDA DEL COLIBRI • Jorge Reyes & Antonio Zepeda • 1985 • Mexican multi instrumentalist Jorge Reyes was a key figure in the Latin American ambient and pre-Hispanic scene. He combines indigenous instruments with electronic tunes. The whole record feels like a ritual. Sounds amazing on the Altecs. Thanks to for bringing this orignal pressing all the way from Mexico 🇲🇽 ♥️

• VIGNETTES • Tommy Khosla • 2021 • This independent release is a little obscure. Rooted in minimal jazz and modern ambient music. The record is build on short vignettes and almost feels like listening to a personal story. Big thanks for the recommendation

• ORBITS • The Circling Sun • 2025 • New release from this New Zealand collective that combines spiritual jazz with Ethiopian groove and fusion. Its warm, pulsing, hypnotic. Great recommendation from

🔴 My new favorite wines in the shop. Fresh in from Loire, but aged for 5 years so expect some depth and still juicy. Pure, zero sulfites and pairs too good with some comte. Lets go!

Stunning album of a blend of samba roots, amazing art work. Hard to sit still on this one.

Very tender, touching, magical voice of Caetano. Goosebumps all the way. Not to forget this beautiful cover picture with his mom.

• BRAZILIANCE! • Marcos Valle • 1966 •
We go back to the early career of Marcos Valle. Bright and optimistic sound of the Rio Bossa Nova scene.
