How Men Benefit from Rivers Maternal, Child Health Week The Rivers State Government says men play key rolls in the health of mothers and children. To this end, the Second Round of the Optimized Maternal ,New Born and Child Health Week has incorporated special attention to men. Speaking through, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Justina Jumbo, Dr. Oreh said the dedication of the government to raise the health indices of mothers and children is borne out of the need to ensure a stable and fit future for the state citizenry.Her words,” the objective is to provide a timely , responsive and ensure that the family receive preventive care.”She said the malefolk is not ignored as they are given Family planning,HIV counselling, and checking of their vitals.The one week programme described as success cut across the , zonal and health centres in all the communities across the state free of charge.On his part Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government, Sir. Allwell Ihunda represented by Hon. Mina Mildred Tom Quinn has given support to the programme as it provides support to health staff in the area of immunization and logistics.Queen of Eze Apara Rebisi , HRM Juliet Elikwu commended the state government and assured to mobile women for the programme.She reaffirmed that the kingdom is health conscious and will do anything to raise the well being of those living within the area.Lauding the programme, a professor of Pediatrics in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Alice Note has commended the state government saying the exercise will help prevent transmutable diseases like diarrhea.She decried the Cholera and diarrhea are highest cause of child morality as she urged mother’s to always carry out exclusive breast feeding and environment clean.
