Incorporate Reading into Daily Life

Consistency is important in establishing a strong and lasting reading culture. Getting youths to spend as little as 15 to 30 minutes a day reading can make an astounding difference over time. As the Bible says, “Study to show yourself approved unto God” 2 Timothy 2:15. Small efforts day after day lead to a lifelong love for books.

Schools and homes are equally important when it comes to creating routines – bedtime stories, morning reading times, or discussing books during meals. “These words… shall be in your heart… and you shall teach them diligently to your children” Deuteronomy 6:6 – 7.

Parents and teachers should set the example. When youth witness adults reading, they are inspired to do the same. “Train up a child in the way he should go ...” Proverbs 22:6. Through consistency, reading nurtures growth — intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.
