10 TIPS TO NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU READ
By Chizoba Banjo
Whether you’re a student, a working professional, or someone simply passionate about growth and learning, remembering what you read is a game-changer. Here are practical tips that have worked for me — and they’ll work for you too!
📌 1. Read with Purpose
Don’t just read for reading’s sake. Always ask:
“What am I looking to take away from this?”
Purpose fuels focus and sharpens understanding.
📌 2. Explain It Like You’re Teaching Someone (Feynman Technique)
If you can explain what you’ve read in simple terms — without looking at the book - you’ve truly understood it.
📌 3. Take Notes that Stick
Don’t just copy. Summarize in your own words, highlight key points, or draw diagrams and mind maps.
When you write, you’re helping your brain remember.
📌 4. Space Out Your Review
Don’t cram! Revisit the material after 1 day, 1 week, and again after 1 month.
This builds long-term memory and deep understanding.
📌 5. Test Yourself
Close the book and try to recall the main points.
Self-quizzing is powerful - it reveals what you’ve truly retained.
📌 6. Teach What You’ve Learned
One of the fastest ways to cement knowledge is by teaching it to someone else.
When you teach, your brain organizes information better.
📌 7. Relate It to Real Life
Link what you’re reading to real experiences, examples, or situations around you.
The more relatable it is, the more memorable it becomes.
📌 8. Cut Out Distractions
It’s not about reading for hours — it’s about reading with deep focus.
Put your phone aside, find a quiet spot, and give the content your full attention.
📌 9. Ask God for Understanding
Don’t underestimate the power of prayer.
Ask God to open your mind, give you wisdom, and strengthen your memory.
He’s the source of all understanding.
📌 10. Practice, Practice, Practice
Repetition is the master key. Read often, review regularly, and most importantly — apply what you learn.
What you consistently practice, you won’t forget.
If you commit to these 10 tips, your learning will no longer just sit on the surface - it will sink deep, transform your thinking, and show in your results.
