Registry Questions
Here, answers to your most pressing concerns about your presents.

Is there a benefit to registering online as opposed to in a store?

Absolutely, for a variety of reasons: Building an Internet registry is easy on all parties. Your guests don’t have to hit the stores (crucial if they live far from your chosen outlets), while you and your fiancé can shorten shopping time merely by picking out patterns and textures in person, then going online to flesh out the collection. You can log on to the websites at any time to add or delete items, change preferences, and see what has already been purchased. Many sites show you who ordered what, in case you lose the card taped to the top of the box.

How do I know how much to register for?

Sign up for more than you think you should. It might feel presumptuous, but remember―no one guest is going to take on the responsibility of filling all your requests. Rather than judging you for being greedy, guests are more likely to become frustrated if they can’t find an item that fits their taste or price point. The bottom line: Your only limiting factor should be what you know you will use, love, and have room for. In other words, don’t sign on for a carving knife if you’re a vegetarian―you just might get it.

My fiancé and I have different tastes. How should we handle our registry?
Divvy up the list by interest. If he’s the better cook but could not care less what the food is served on, let him pick knives and kitchenware while you select the china and silverware. If you have a flair for decorating but he’s color-blind, choose the bed linens and let him register for electronics.

An alternative: Mix and match items like mugs and towels so that each of you scores some picks. (Of course, this tactic doesn’t work when it comes to registering for matching sets, like silverware and china.)

It’s also worth it to throw your fiancé a bone―and a scan gun―and let him register at a hardware or home-supply store. These retailers often cater to grooms, but do-it-yourself brides will find plenty to love, too.

Bridal Make-Up Tips: The 10 Dos!

You've got the dress sorted, now it's time to think about wedding beauty. We've put together these 20 bridal make-up tips, with a little help from the experts, to make sure you look flawless on your big day.

Simply say 'I do' to the following bridal make-up rules and prepare to wow.

Do:

1. 'Make sure you have your trial at least three weeks, but no more than 5 weeks, before your wedding. If you plan on using fake tan for the big day, have a test run before your make-up trial so that your artist can see what colour your skin becomes with the tan,' says M·A·C Senior Artist, Rebecca Butterworth.

2. 'Wear a white t-shirt if you’re having your make-up test in a store so that you can see how the make-up looks against a pale colour and take a picture of yourself in day light (with no flash) to see how it looks before you purchase anything,' says celebrity make-up maestro Caroline Barnes.

3. 'Emphasize your eyes by brightening any darkness under them with corrector and concealer,' says Bobbi Brown.

4.' Bring references to your make-up trial. Start looking for images of make-up that you really like and bring them with you on the day. Try to identify what it is you like about the make-up in the image and take into account that if you have the skin colour of Dita Von Teese then the make-up of Kim Kardashian won't necessarily translate onto you,' says Rebecca.

5. 'Remember that bridal make-up needs to have enough colour to compensate for the whiteness of the dress. There’s a big difference between everyday clothes and a wedding dress, so there should be difference in your make-up, too. Start by making sure your skin looks even and smooth, and then add colour to your cheeks and lips to give them a glow,' says Bobbi Brown.

6. 'Use individual eyelashes – they’re a brilliant way to make your eyes stand out and look far more subtle than a full strip. Go for differing lengths to create a really natural fluttery look and nestle them in between your natural lashes rather than fixing them on top,' says Rebecca.

7. 'Focus on the most important elements of your look, such as beautifully natural-looking skin, softly groomed brows and feathery lashes. If you get these basic factors right the rest of your make-up will fall into place,' says Caroline Barnes.

8. 'Research application methods as they might differ slightly from your everyday make-up routine. For example, if you prefer to line with a shadow, make it last longer by applying it with a slightly damp eyeliner brush,' says Bobbi.

9.' Go pro. The best wedding make-up should last as long as you do so I love M·A·C’s Prolongwear range which includes foundations, concealers, lip and eye products that provide superior wear that will see you through your wedding day and night,' says Quintessence Makeovers.

10. 'Finish your make-up off with a highlighter shade on the browbone to make the eyes really pop. Go for a light matte shade, and pat onto the outer corner of the brow bone so subtly draw attention to this area of your face,' says Bobbi.

10 Tips to Save Money on your Wedding
1. Reduce Guest List: The peculiar nature of our society encourages elaborate wedding ceremonies and with each guest invited, the budget increases. There are people you have not seen or spoken to in 2-5 years, extended family members, colleagues, old school or club members etc, don’t feel any obligation to invite them.

2. Save on Wedding Invitations: Instead of printing invitation cards, you can decide to send messages to the close friends and family you want to invite. You could also create an invitation profile on social media and add only those you please.

3. Shop Sales & Online Wedding Dresses: Its your wedding day and you want to look beautiful, there are bridal shops and online stores that offer sample sales of wedding dresses at prices that would not blow your budget. You could also consider saving a lot by renting a dress, remember there is a lot more to marriage than the wedding day.

4. Day of the Week: The conventional Friday/Saturday wedding is fast changing, you can plan your wedding into a week day to reduce crowd, save cost on almost everything from venue, entertainment etc. Someone recently went to registry on a Wednesday morning, had engagement later that evening, church next morning and used the church hall for reception at no cost.

5. Save on Church Decorations: You can use decorations in the church the way it is for simplicity instead of going all out to change everything to suit/match your preferred wedding colours. It’s the church and not your reception venue, besides your guests may not even notice or mind this during the short ceremony.

6. Get Help to Save Money: Your friends and family are people you could also rely on, don’t be shy to ask for their help. Money can be saved using a witty/well-spoken friend as MC, you also know that family or friend who is a perfectionist & could help organize things. They would be glad to assist.

7. DIY: There are so many things you can get done yourself, like bouquet, centerpieces, beaded cutlery holders, flower sprays, brooches etc. Friends could also pitch-in to help, remember to offer them refreshments while they are at it.

8. Food and Drinks: It is important that guests get entertained in the best possible way; you don’t want to have people grumbling about food/drinks during or after your wedding. Be open with your caterer about your budget, you may also decide to serve one meal but ensure its tasty & enough to go round.

9. Go Online: Funny how we go about with gadgets & never fully utilize them. There are so many things one can find online that would be of great benefit & help save a whole lot.

10. Transportation & Getaways: Cars which belongs to a friend/family can be used as means of transportation on your wedding day, or get a car hire service for same purpose. Your honeymoon/getaway location does not have to be abroad and paid for by you/your spouse, it could be your wedding gift.

How to negotiate with wedding vendors

1. Do Your Homework: It never hurts to visit/ask two or more vendors to know what they offer, this helps you make comparisons and informed choices. Having knowledge of competitor’s offering/rates also helps when discussing with the vendor you decide to use, as you can make reference to this, ask for discounts or extras.

2. Clarify: Never assume, always ensure you fully understand everything stated in the agreement and ask for explanations in areas where clauses are indicated. Otherwise you may be paying for what you do not need.

3. Be Nice: Been nice and polite is a good way to get away with many things. When you create a friendly mood while discussing with your vendor (or anyone), you can get the best out of people & ensure you express yourself clearly without been pushy.

4. Avoid Nibbling: These are extra charges that could arise at the last moment, be careful not to fall for it as they are usually what can be avoided or done at no cost. Politely state that you did not plan for the extra charges as you felt it was already part of the total charges.

5. Be Flexible: Listen to your vendor’s suggestions; much as they can make/mar events, they can also be very helpful with good ideas that would ensure everything goes smoothly. Sometimes you may not have thought in that direction, been flexible and open would help you get the best.

6. Consider Your Advantage: Every vendor values a satisfied customer because they know it can get them referrals, this can also turn the other way with an unsatisfied one. You can try/pretend to walk away if you feel a vendor isn’t offering what you want, often times than not you would be called back to renegotiate.

7. Offer Incentives: Sometimes you could get discounts or price reduction if you offer your vendor incentives. For instance, you could agree to pay for transportation or have someone come pick-up your photographer, decorator, caterer/assistants with guarantee of a place to stay the night before your event.

Wedding Dress Shopping Tips
Every lady looks forward to that day when she gets to walk down the aisle in a lovely wedding dress, with the man of her dreams. So it’s no surprise she wants it to be beautiful and special in every way, the following tips would serve as guide when shopping;
1. Get a design: Before you set out, make sure you have been browsing/looking through websites, magazines, catalogs/pictures. You can do this with friends and also ask a designer to show you samples of what would suit your body type (e.g. neck, waist line); a dress can be beautiful but not be the best option for you.
2. Set aside a budget: It is very easy to get carried away in the excitement and euphoria of the moment that you tend to feel the need to splurge. With a budget in mind you can be sure to keep yourself in check so as not to go beyond the limit.
3. Dream it: Your wedding day is yours to anticipate, so dream/imagine yourself in the dress. Be sure not to walk into any store not knowing what you want and end up buying something that would make you unhappy.
4. Don’t go alone: For this type of shopping, you most definitely need a second or third set of eyes. Your bride’s maid, sister or close friend would be right to go with you; they will be glad to be of assistance, share your joy and may see those things you miss, out of excitement. Beware of large and opinionated crowd, two or three people at most.
5. Consider the venue: The type of venue you intend using for your wedding should also be put into consideration. This would help to determine the best type of fabric that would be appropriate, the dress length and style in general, also helps in choosing other accessories you will need.
6. Bring accessories: If you already purchased the accessories you intend to wear, you might want to take it along. You can also go with undergarments to use as appropriate for each dress you try on, a pair of high heels or the exact shoe for your wedding day can also be included.
7. Clear/open Mind: Go with a clear and open mind, try not to discard or write any dress off at first glance. Though it’s all about you, the opinion/suggestions raised by attendants, friends/family can be of great benefit.
8. Don’t make hasty decisions: Surely you are not shopping the day before your wedding, so there is no need to rush or make hasty decisions. You can sleep over it and schedule another appointment, its your wedding and you want to gift yourself the best.
9. Try it: Sizes printed on labels sometimes run big/small, make certain you try on the dress in the shop and not assume it is your size. If you intend losing some weight before your wedding still buy what fits now, it’s easier to take the dress in than add other materials because the dress is tight.
10. When you find the right dress that fits you, feels good on you, makes you happy, in line with your budget, appropriate for you type of ceremony and ok with the friends/family you went with…. Look no further, just go for it!!
