Yeah before the 19th century, there's no distinction between left and right feet shoes. Obviously shoes weren't made for comfort then, probably just to protect the feet.

William Young perfected a process for making different shoes for the right and left foot. Before that, shoes for each foot were made exactly the same.

It's just like putting on the shoes like little kids does, it would have been uncomfortable and frustrating 😤.
