*EMPLOYEE FURLOUGH IN THE TIME OF COVID-19*

An employee furlough is a compulsory stoppage of work without pay due to unseen circumstances beyond the control of the organisation. It can be as brief or as long as the situation warrants . Employees are unable to work or get paid during the coronavirus pandemic.

Furloughs can take place in both public and private institutions. An organization will furlough employees as a cost-saving measure when it doesn't want to lay off staff but lacks the resources to continue paying them.

The main difference between a furlough and a layoff is that a former allows workers to return to their jobs. Some layoffs are temporary, and will recall workers to the job, but in cases where management decides the employees will not be recalled, the layoff becomes permanent.

Furloughed employees are absolutely banned from doing any work on behalf of their employer whatsoever.

furloughed employees have the right to seek new employment. For an employer, one of the main risks of this process is that their top talent will get jobs elsewhere.
