My journey as a Geoscience student began in 2014 when I was offered Geology at the Polytechnic of Ibadan for a 2-year diploma program. Initially, it wasn't my first choice since I had intended to become a medical doctor, as I had mentioned during my secondary school days. After completing my secondary education in 2013, I spent a year teaching at a primary school and found it both fulfilling and satisfying. To God be the glory, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in 2014 majestically jambed me 😂, I didn't attain the cut-off mark for a university admission, only for a polytechnic. Consequently, I applied for Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) at the Polytechnic of Ibadan but was offered Geology instead. I had no idea what the course entailed, but I knew I could excel in any field if I put in my best effort.
Notably, I never gave up on my dream of attending a university.
I worked tirelessly, and with God's grace, the support of my friends, and my own dedication, I completed the diploma program with a grade point average of 4.2 out of 5.0 in 2016. This enabled me to apply for a direct entry into the Federal University of Technology, Akure, to pursue the same course. However, I had to complete a mandatory internship year before applying, which I did. Alhamdulillah, I was admitted to FUTA as a second-year student in 2017. Although the expected year of graduation was 2021, strikes and COVID-19 lockdowns disrupted the academic calendar, resulting in a delay. By the grace of God, my undergraduate studies will be concluding in a few weeks. Graduate school is the next item on my list because I am not stopping here.
I pray that Allah SWT grants me the grace, strength, and blessings to pursue my dreams and make them a reality (Amin).
Thank you for reading to the end 🤗
