Based on the 2023 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) by NiMet and Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) by NHISA across the country, NEMA in-conjunction with EDOSEMA is holding her Stakeholders meeting to plan and mitigate the current Flood Disaster in the State thereby saving lives and properties.

FIRE DESTROYED PROPERTY WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA AT LAGOS STREET IN BENIN CITY.

Fire has gutted shops at Lagos street near King Square in Benin City.

The Fire Disaster occured on the 6th of December, 2022 at about 7pm.

About 20 shops in the affected building were completely razed down by the inferno and the cause of the Fire Outbreak was not known as at the time Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) visited the scene.

The Fire Disaster caused extensive damage to goods thereby rendering the Owners jobless, while other shop owners who were on ground were able to save some of their goods.

The State Fire Service responded swiftly to the distress call and mobilized to the scene to put off the fire and prevent it from spreading further to other parts of the building .

The Officials of Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) was at the Scene to ascertain the level of damage and reports have being sent to the State Government for necessary action.

RAINSTORM DISASTER

A team led by Mrs. Obayuwana Helen, Director:Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) in conjunction with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) carried out an On-The-Spot Assessment of Rainstorm Disaster that took place on the 29th of November, 2022 at Sobe Community in Owan West LGA.

The team visited the Palace of the Odibiado of Sobe Community and we're received by the Chiefs and the Queen
who appreciated the State and Federal Government for coming to their aid.

During the visitation to the Palace, Mrs. Obayuwana Helen, Director: EDOSEMA made a passionate appeal to the chiefs to tell their people to plant more trees in the environment as this will serve as wind brake during rainstorm.

The team was taken round the scene of disaster by Chief Larry Enahoro: Secretary to the Palace and Hon. Obi Anthony Johnbull: Special Adviser to Edo State Government on Political Parties, Ward II, Owan West LGA.

Hon. Anthony said the the incidence occurred on the 29th of November, 2022 between the hours of 5-6pm which destroyed over 50 houses in the Community.

The Chiefs and the affected victims commended the State and Federal Government for coming to their aid and pleaded for a timely response to ease their sufferings.

FIRE DISASTER

A team led by Mrs. Obayuwana Helen, Director:Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) in conjunction with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) carried out an On-The-Spot Assessment of Fire Disaster that took place on the 18th of November, 2022 at Owan Community in Ovia North-East LGA.

The team visited the Edionwere of the Community was taken round the scene of disaster by Mr. Oviagbede Abiodun, Vigilante at the Community who explained the cause of the Fire Incidence. He stated "the cause of the fire was as a result of NUPENG 11,000 meters diesel tanker that caught fire destroying shops, farm land, vehicle and palm seedlings".

He went further to state that part of the tanker was taken to a police Station at Sobe Community alongside the driver by the Sobe Community Police men.

EDOSEMA and NEMA sympathize with the affected victims and told them the the report of the incidence will be sent to the State and Federal Government to take necessary action so as to ameliorate their sufferings.

HANDOVER OF RELIEF MATERIALS

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) handover Relief Materials to Edo State Government. The items was received by Mrs. Carol Odion- Functioning Director Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) on behalf of the Edo State Government.

Speaking with the Media during an interview, Mr. Henry Dio, Head of Department, Public Relations, NIMASA Central Zone said "as part of their CSI engagement, for over a while now, NIMASA have being carrying out this social responsibility of providing relief materials across the Nation for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's) across the country. Representing NIMASA Central Zone, the relief materials is given to the State Government so that it can be used to help the plight of school children who are displaced".

Mrs. Carol Odion expressed her gratitude to NIMASA on behalf of the State Governor and the good people of Edo State. She went further to say that the items will be judiciously used for children who are in dire need.

RAINSTORM DISASTER

Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) carried out an On-The-Spot Assessment of Rainstorm Disaster that affected Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee’s (NULGE).

The team was conducted round the incident by Mr. Olumuyiwa Cole, Secretary, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee’s (NULGE).

Mr. Cole stated the heavy downpour started around 3pm destroying the roof, electronics, furniture in the building. He further stated that this was the first occurrence they are experiencing since over 30 years they have being in the building.

Members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee’s (NULGE) led by their Secretary Mr. Olumuyiwa Cole commended Mr. Governor for its prompt response as observed by the presence of Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) team to assess the level of damage done by the rainstorm.

They are using this medium to appeal to Mr. Governor for assistance for the building and rehabilitation of Obaruyi Street off Okhoro Road.

COURTESY VISIT
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) led by Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) pays courtesy visit to Hon. Christopher Nehikhare: Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth’s and Humanitarian Affairs

Mrs. Carol Odion: Functioning Director, Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) informed the Hon. Commissioner of NEMA visit for collaboration in terms of Emergency Situation in the State.

Mr. Dahiru Yusuf: Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Edo Operation Office congratulated Hon. Christopher on his appointment as Commissioner.

He informed Hon. Christopher of NEMA role as regards emergency in the country and also the IDP Camp situated at Uhogua, Ovia South-West LGA, Edo State

He emphased on his efforts he is making to make sure Edo State get more support from the Federal Government.

He went further to inform the Hon. Commissioner about the NiMet 2022 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction on Flood which Edo State is one of the Flood Prone Areas and appealed to Hon. Christopher for more collaboration so as to tackle disaster in the State.

Hon. Christopher Nehikhare appreciated NEMA for the assistance they have being rendering all over the country. He promised to collaborate with the Agency in the areas of assessment and sensitization.
