DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Thomas had some other thing in mind but Jesus showed him some other thing.

Thomas wanted to see the marks of the crucifixion.
Jesus showed him.
BUT!

Physically,
they were the marks of his crucifixion,
Spiritually they were the marks of mercy.

Now we understand why Jesus asked him to dip his hands in them.
Jesus wants us all today to deep our hands in his marks of mercy.

Little wonder in his apparitions to Saint Faustina Kowalska he said "tell the world of my inconceivable mercy"

What are these marks?

The first reading,
it was the communal life and the breaking of bread together of the early Christians.
To be communal in life is to be merciful.
Remember the last supper of Jesus,
how they broke brad together.

The second reading,
it was the new birth and inheritance Jesus was giving us through his death and resurrection.
A new opportunity.
For his mercies are new every morning.

The gospel!
Forgiveness.
Jesus gives his disciples the power to forgive.
A divine power that extends to all Christians.

And then "believe"
Now we understand why Jesus said blessed are those who have not seen but yet believe.

If we don't believe in the mercy of God how would we avail ourselves to him in the sacrament of penance.

A heart that refuses to give the mercy of God a chance is a heart that eventually lives in perpetual fear.
The disciples locked them selves up in fear.

A heart that has found mercy,
is a heart that found peace.
What is mercy without peace.
Jesus said to them "peace be unto you"

And then,
the root of mercy is the Holy Spirit.
Little wonder Jesus breathed on them the Holy Spirit.

In a world devoid of true peace and harmony.
A world filled with wars and unrest.
A world designed by wickedness.
Jesus is calling us today to dip out fingers into his wounds and marks of mercy.

Jesus said to Faustina Kowalska,
do not just preach mercy,
be an instrument of mercy.
