Hair Love Wednesday with
Zodidi J. Gaseb
My daughter was a huge influence for me as I realized the impact I was placing in terms of self esteem and self love.
I’ve been natural for about 6years with two big chops, the last one being September 2018, and the journey has been challenging because I had so much rediscovering and relearning to do within myself first. The outside world was also not so kind at first but as I grew to love my kinks and curls, I cared less about others opinions.
Over the years, I’ve gone through many transformations physically, emotionally and mentally and that has influenced my hair health as well as learning to fully accept myself.
I’ve become more health conscious and I’ve seen how my kids have grown in self love too!
Being natural has opened so many doors for me, a culmination of being vocal about the challenges I go through as well as being authentic and trying to change the social dynamics of Namibia.
I’ve being a speaker at Tedx Windhoek, and was pleasantly surprised to see that my talk was nominated as one of the most influential talks in the world when TED hit a billion likes on their platforms. I’ve been featured in Cosmopolitan South Africa, a Kenyan inflight magazine, Msafiri as one of Africa’s glam squad, Master Your Destiny’s first issue, gosh so many that I’m so thankful for.
One of the biggest highlights was a few years ago when I was invited to speak at the Global Media Platform held in Bonn about hair!
My advice for naturalistas out there is to learn about your hair type and porosity, invest in good quality local products, please for the love of your edges, don’t comb your hair while it’s dry and ease up on the right hairstyles.
Treat your hair like you would someone you love. And most importantly, don’t worry about others opinions about your hair, your hair is beautiful....
