Here’s what we’re working with this week to put up on our shelves. Honestly, so many wonderful reads come through our doors and we often ooh and ahh over it, but hardly have the time to pause long enough to truly check out each in great detail.

The quick flip-through is still a satisfying time, I would say. But truth be told, when this little bookstore started (from the pov of a book hoarder/lover) I thought I’d have the time of my life going through every book. But I soon learned it’s harder to let go the more you fall in love with a book. 🤣

Nevertheless, it’s still the most satisfying work I’ve done throughout my life thus far. Hope you’re enjoying our weekly curation too.

Here are lots of new arrivals you’ll love… my personal favourite from this batch is The Ten Loves of Mr Nishino. I’d recommend this read especially if you’re a Japanese lit fan.

These are some of the books we have managed to add on to our Giant Bandar Kinrara shelves.

In fact we have been busy trying to fill up the gaps at both Aeon Big Subang Jaya and Giant Bandar Kinrara for this week.

Come by and visit any of our shops this weekend. Both are accessible by LRT. Stop at Subang Jaya station and Kinrara BK5 station respectively to get to our Subang and Kinrara branches. Just walk across the overhead pedestrian bridge at both stations and you’ll see the buildings we’re in. 😊

Do you know that AI companies are quietly buying up and scanning rare books, then discarding the physical copies?

In a time where “content” is everywhere and physical books are getting scanned into datasets, choosing to browse a shelf, smell the paper, and take a real copy home is its own quiet act of preservation.

Which is partly why, even with the economy uncertain and every smart business instinct telling us it isn’t the best time to expand, we opened our second Bookaholics store anyway. Not because the timing was ideal. Because more secondhand bookshops are needed now, not fewer.

Support your local secondhand bookstore. Keep books physical. Don’t let books be destroyed and literature die off for no good reason.

These are still being processed and will be shelved soon in both our Subang Jaya and Bandar Kinrara outlets.

Confession time. Over the years I’ve somehow collected every Odyssey retelling I could get my hands on: a vintage Enid Blyton retelling, two different editions of Homer’s original, and this beautiful Stephen Fry hardcover I bought because the cover alone was worth it. 😂

Not one of them has been read cover to cover. Don’t judge me, and neither will I judge you. 🙈

With the movie out now, I’ve got more push to finally read at least one of them. I’ll be handing out each copy to my sons to read before we finally go catch the movie. Although I don’t think we have the time to finish the book. At least a quarter or half way through is good enough?

P.S. Just so this post is not misunderstood, these are my personal collection, not for sale ya 😄 All the Odyssey books at our shop have been sold out 🤭
