We now carry compostable bag products at MINIMIZE Zero Waste Store.

We've always been suspicious of "biodegradable" plastics as many out there claim to use. Maribumi certified compostable bio-resins do actually compost within 180 days of exposure to the environment. With the whole advent of microplastics, this is a welcomed assurance. Maribumi's bio-resin is derived from a natural plant-based that has met the critical requirements to comply with international & quality standards which includes SIRIM Eco-Labelling Scheme & Malaysian Green Technology & Climate Change Centre (MGTC) with MyHIJAU mark. These bags are also thicker than other competing compostable bags & are really sturdy.

Best of all, this is made in Malaysia 🇲🇾!

Beautiful upcycled plastic products by .makers !

Whenever we restock more, the whole shop lights up with the colours from all these diverted household plastic bags. Support their efforts by giving these single use waste a much much longer life.

Remember, just because a passionate community is willing to upcycle and divert waste doesn't mean it's license to generate more trash. The amount of trash we produce will always exceed the efforts of a small well-meaning group.

Yesterday I (Jayne) had the honor of returning to as an alumni by invitation of .alumni to speak in a panel to undergraduate students of the School of Arts & Social Sciences about what it means to have a digital presence and expectations in the workforce after graduation.

It was a lovely insightful chat with moderator Prof as well as my panelists and my actual undergraduate classmate .events . The last time I met Syafique was at our graduation in 2007! It's amazing to see all the different pathways we've all gone down despite coming from the same school and undergraduate degree.

We discussed topics like how human participation is still relevant with the advent of AI softwares, what are the salary expectation gaps by fresh graduates vs the job market, resilience as a new entrant into the workforce. It was a good time and I'm glad that all the pivots I took in the past 20 years of my career (yikes but also yay) can benefit my junior.

🌿 Answering commonly asked questions about MINIMIZE Zero Waste Store 🌿

Q. What brands are your detergents?
A. Our detergents are generally unbranded as we get it in bulk from the manufacturer to cut the middle level (branding/marketing) to transfer savings to you & reduce unnecessary packaging.

Q. Are your food items fresh?
A. We display only a small amount from our bulk supply to maintain freshness. The main supply is stored safely in our chiller or freezer.

Q. Can you share the full nutritional value or ingredients list of every food product you sell?
A. We will do our best to share what we know and have when you request. We also try to display as much info as possible on our labels.

Q. How does your detergents compare to XYZ brand?
A. We can assure you that our products are effective after selling and using them for 5 years. However user experience is unique so the zero waste concept allows you to get a little of every variety to try and see if you find them effective.

Q. Are all your products recycled (including food and detergent)?
A. No we are not a recycling center or a thrift store. We focus on refills where you bring your own containers to buy what you need by weight. We do not sell expired foods/detergents/personal care products.

Q. What items do you take in for recycling?
A. We're not a recycling center so taking in items for recycling is not a focus. However we do take in Used Cooking Oil and unwanted fabrics.

Q. Can give discount or not since we bring our own containers?
A. We endeavour to price our products reasonably with sufficient margin to survive. We also work with a lot of smaller suppliers. So we would all love to stay alive ❤️.

Q. Are all your food products organic?
A. We're not an organic store so that's not our focus. We aim to offer affordable refillable bulk food instead. However some of our foods happen to be organic due to sourcing. It would be stated on the labels.

Bonus Q. Can I give you ALL my empty containers and jars?
A. While we do welcome empties for adoption and reuse, please check with us before dropping them off. Sometimes we have too much to handle.
