🐕💔 The Incredible Story of Palma – The Dog Who Waited 💔🐕

✈️ Between 1974 and 1976, at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, an emotional story touched the hearts of many.

🐶 A Dog Abandoned on the Runway

A passenger was about to board an Il-18 plane bound for Norilsk. His loyal companion, a German Shepherd named Palma, had a ticket purchased, but was denied boarding because he lacked a veterinary certificate.

💔 With no alternatives, the owner made a cruel decision: he hugged Palma, removed his collar, and left without him.

Confused and disoriented, Palma wandered around the airport, trying to understand what had happened. When he finally returned to the gate, his owner was already gone. 🚪😢

✈️ The Loyal Wait and the Pain of Abandonment

Palma refused to accept reality. He stood still, staring at the closed door, believing that this had to be a mistake.

🛫 Then, upon hearing the roar of the Il-18’s engine, he began running after the plane, trying to catch up.
💨 He ran until his paws couldn’t carry him any further, as the heat of the jet fuel and the force of the takeoff engulfed him.
Palma was left alone on the empty runway… and he started to wait.

🐾 For a long time, he lived in the open, lost, but never losing hope that his owner would return. 😞

👨‍✈️ A Pilot and the Article That Changed Everything

Palma eventually found shelter under a trailer used by airport workers. One day, he was noticed by Il-18 captain Viacheslav Alexandrovich Valentei, who observed that the dog always approached the stairs of arriving and departing planes, watching the passengers, searching for his owner. 💔🐕

📢 Palma’s heartbreaking story was published by the newspaper "Komsomólskaya Pravda", and finally, it reached his former owner. From Norilsk, the man sent a message to the pilot explaining that Palma’s eye condition prevented him from obtaining a veterinary certificate.

📜 However, even after learning that Palma was still waiting for him, the man refused to take him back. 😡💔

🏡 A New Home for Palma

Many people offered to adopt him, but in the end, Palma was taken to Kyiv, where he was welcomed by Vera Kotliarevskaya, a professor at the pedagogical institute. 📚👩‍🏫

🐾 Over time, Palma adapted to his new life. Vera wrote in her diary:
📝 "A very balanced dog, with a stable nervous system and a deep attachment to humans and home. When he arrived, he approached my sleeping daughter, licked her cheek, and gently held her ear between his teeth." 💕🐶

🎬 The Story That Became a Movie

In 1988, this touching story inspired the Soviet film "Tied to the Runway" (Привязанный к взлетной полосе). 🎞️🐕

Palma became a symbol of the unbreakable loyalty of dogs, proving that, more often than not, they have much bigger hearts than humans. 💔🐾

Every morning in Frankfurt, Germany, you might catch a glimpse of Jenny, a horse who goes on a long walk every morning, all by herself. She has been taking the same route every morning for 14 years, ever since her owner, now 79 years old, became unable to ride. She enjoys greeting all of the familiar faces along the way, and she stops and gets treats and pettings from some of her favorite humans.

The locals treat her like a celebrity and happily clean up after her. A piece of paper is attached to her halter that reads, “My name is Jenny. I didn’t run away, I’m just walking. Thank you.” But the police get calls frequently from people who don’t know about the arrangement. They are very familiar with the horse and the owner, and there have been no incidents in 14 years. A local veterinarian gives her routine checkups and continues to find her to be healthy and showing no anxiety about her unique lifestyle. 😍😇🙌🐎🌈🌏
