John the Baptist spent his adult life preparing the way for Jesus and proclaiming that “the Kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.”. He was born to Zachary and Elizabeth, an elderly married couple. The Angel Gabriel had visited Zachary and told him that his wife would bear a child, even though she was already past the child-bearing age.

When Jesus came to John to be baptized, John recognized Jesus as the Messiah and baptized Him, saying: “It is I who need baptism from you.” John continued to preach after Jesus was baptized, but was imprisoned not long after by Herod Antipas, after he denounced the king’s adulterous marriage with Herodias, wife of his half-brother Philip. John was beheaded at the request of Salome, daughter of Herodias. Many came to know Jesus through John, namely the Apostles Andrew and John.

A strong interior life can be possible for all that seek it, and St. Aloysius shows us by his life that it can be achieved. He was a young man when he died – age 23, but did a lot in his short life to impact others in their faith. He shows us through sickness and even death at an early age, we can merit sainthood by keeping our “interior” focused on God and not the things of this world. By calling upon St. Aloysius he is eager to help all, but especially invoked for youths, scholars, and students. Every time a student has a tough time in school – don’t hesitate to call upon his intercession. After having received his First Holy Communion by St. Charles Borromeo and his last rites by St. Robert Bellarmine, shows us the providence of God to take care of his own. God never abandons us, and we can see that through the life of this young saint.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary signifies, first of all, the great purity and love of the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary for God. This purity is manifested in her “Yes” to the Father at the Incarnation, Her love for, and cooperation with, the Incarnate Son in His redemptive mission, and her docility to the Holy Spirit, enabling her to remain free of the stain of personal sin throughout her life. Mary’s Immaculate Heart, therefore, points us to her profound interior life, where she experienced both joys and sorrows, yet remained faithful, as we, too, are called to do. In 2023, we celebrate the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on June 17.
