Conversations Between Islamic & Western Intellectual Traditions — Part II: On Truth
What is truth?
And beyond knowing what is true, what does it mean to live truthfully?
Continuing our Conversations Between Islamic & Western Intellectual Traditions series, we turn to another fundamental question in human thought: Truth.
After beginning our journey with Knowledge, this session takes us further into the relationship between what we know, what is real, and how we ought to live.
Syed Muhiyuddin Al-Attas explores truth across Western and Islamic intellectual traditions—from Aristotle’s correspondence between intellect and reality to Mortimer Adler’s defence of philosophical realism.
The conversation then turns to the Qurʾān and Sunnah, where truth is rooted in al-Ḥaqq, while ṣidq becomes a virtue of speech, belief, intention and action.
