❓What if Islamic law wasn’t just about rules—but about ethics, purpose, and human wellbeing?

A lot of what we hear about Islamic law focuses on rules and structures. But there’s also a deeper intellectual tradition—one that asks about purpose, ethics, and human wellbeing. 💭

In collaboration with the lovely team at and , join us for us for an evening with Dr Mariam Sheibani on her latest book, An Islamic Legal Philosophy: Ibn ‘Abd al-Salām and the Ethical Turn in Islamic Law.

✨ In this illuminating study, Dr Mariam uncovers a rich but often overlooked chapter of Islamic intellectual history—where law is not merely formal, but deeply rooted in maṣlaḥa (human benefit) and guided by higher ethical aims.

Through the legacy of the great jurist Ibn ‘Abd al-Salām, discover how Islamic law was lived, embodied, and even used as a force for social reform in medieval Damascus and Cairo—and why this ethical vision still matters today.

Nur Innai Bookshop expresses her full support for the petition initiated by Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud to rename the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) as SMNA-ISTAC, in honour of its founder, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas.

Few scholars in the modern Muslim world have contributed as profoundly to the intellectual, spiritual, and civilizational revival of the Ummah as Professor al-Attas. His vision gave birth to ISTAC as a unique institution dedicated to the integration of knowledge, the cultivation of adab, and the restoration of Islam’s authentic intellectual tradition.

Renaming the institute SMNA-ISTAC would be a fitting and rightful recognition of the founder whose ideas, scholarship, and leadership shaped the very soul and direction of the institution. It would also ensure that future generations remain conscious of the intellectual legacy and civilizational mission that Professor al-Attas entrusted to it.

As a bookstore committed to the dissemination of meaningful Islamic thought and the preservation of our scholarly heritage, Nur Innai Bookshop believes that honouring Professor al-Attas in this way is not merely symbolic. It is an affirmation of gratitude, historical truth, and intellectual continuity.

We therefore stand in solidarity with this effort and respectfully support the proposal to rename ISTAC as SMNA-ISTAC, so that the name of its visionary founder remains permanently linked to the institution he brought into being.

Remembering a luminous mind and a life devoted to knowledge.

This Sunday, we gather in reflection and gratitude for the life of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas — a scholar, teacher, and visionary whose ideas reshaped the intellectual landscape of the Muslim world.

Through his writings, his students, and the founding of International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization, he reminded us that knowledge is not merely information, but a sacred trust that must be guided by adab and rooted in truth.

Join us for an intimate conversation with Dr Ikhwan Azlan and Dr Syafiq Burhannuddin as we reflect on the life, scholarship, and enduring legacy of this remarkable thinker.

A light that continues to illuminate.

Assalāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh 🌷

As we enter the last ten days of Ramadan, our hearts are heavy — both with the impending departure of this blessed month and the recent loss of our beloved teacher, Professor Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas. A great light has returned to his Creator. May our deeds be multiplied, our faith strengthened, and may we honour his legacy by revisiting the very foundations of what we believe.

Join us this Saturday for our fourth class on Tawhid with Dato’ Dr Ayman Al-Akiti.
