关于永生花的由来，有一个感人至深的美丽故事。

一对深爱的情侣即将离别。男孩需要去参与一场捍卫家乡与亲人的战争。这次告别或许是永别。男孩给女孩留下刚摘下的玫瑰与红蜡封好的信，告诉女孩：当这捧玫瑰最后一片花瓣掉落的时候，就是她忘记他的时候，开始她自己全新的生活。

女孩将那捧玫瑰放在花樽里，双手合十于胸向上帝祈祷，每天…… 血腥的消息不断传来，那些玫瑰花慢慢没了露水，没了鲜萃，就连香味都淡了，可始终没有男孩的只言片语。神奇的是，花樽里的花朵一片花瓣都不曾掉下。终于在一天的清晨，男孩，身着凯旋的战袍，带着沉积的伤疤，回到了女孩的家门口。从此一辈子牵手而行再也没有分开过。还有那一捧干枯却依旧挺立的玫瑰花。

于是，这对爱人被幸运之神眷顾的故事流传了下来。在欧洲，只要男孩和女孩相爱了，便会留存一捧玫瑰，或将花瓣放在圣经里，或制成永不凋谢的永生花。以此祈祷能像故事里的他们一样幸福和幸运，直至永恒。这也是永生花的花语和寓意。
