Little Dark Oud Story to Share as Education Purposes.

Everyone seems obsessed with Green and Blue Oud nowadays, as if colour alone defines quality.

What many don’t realize is that some agarwood plantations and even Wild have reportedly relied on Paraquat.

Just for your extra information, its a toxic herbicide banned in Malaysia under the Poisons Act 1952 (Act 366).

Yes, blue oil can still come out of the distillation pot.

But the real question is:
Is it blue because of Wild Nature behaviour, or Organic Innoculum or is it because of Poisonous Chemical?

If from Wild Nature and Organic Innoculum, then its safe.

Some oils may feel unusually harsh on the skin and cause irritation. Sometimes, its will slowly damage your nose sense. (The story about what it can do to your body not ends here)

In the end, chasing colour is easy. Knowing what is behind that colour is much harder.

Lots of honest and hard-working distillers and brand owners spend fortunes traveling and sourcing to guarantee that your oud is pure and safe. And yet, there will always be opportunistic who compromise safety, destroy the industry’s integrity, and undercut the market with cheap, toxic alternatives.

Make sure your oud is safe. Trust your Nose.

Disclamer: The Picture is from Google and nothing to do with our product.

Aquilaria malaccensis pure oud oil can actually turn out green in its early stages. It’s all down to the specific sesquiterpenes pulled during the initial distillation, which leave the oil with a beautiful olive or golden-green hue.

Whether you start with low-grade or high-grade chips, it ultimately comes down to the distillation process and the specific aromatic profile the brand owner has planned. It’s all about what they want the distiller to capture for their target market.

Of course, the raw material still dictates the core of the oil. Higher-grade oud chips generally exhibit greater richness, depth, and multi-layered character, while lower-grade materials present a much simpler, less nuanced profile.

But at the end of the day, everything rests on the skill of the distiller. Seriously, give those guys a round of applause, and please keep them in your prayers because it is grueling work!

Unfortunately, in the oud market today, genuine treasures are often overlooked while cheaper, flatter alternatives attract the most attention. In oud, as in many things, the lowest price rarely represents the best value. With time and experience, your nose will clearly tell you the difference.

Also, don’t fall blindly for marketing. The terms “artisan” and “artisanal” have become massive buzzwords nowadays, and everyone seems to be going crazy over them. But remember, claiming it is easy, proving it is another matter entirely.

Trust your nose, not the hype.

Something interesting is on the horizon. Not every letter brings news. Some bring opportunities.
