A memorable evening at Abbott Award Night! ✨

Through our Batik Bonding Team Building activity, everyone came together to paint a giant batik puzzle, with each participant contributing a unique piece of the artwork. The experience encouraged creativity, teamwork, and meaningful connections.

The neighboring country’s iconic symbol — the “lion’s head and mermaid’s tail” — is the famous Merlion of Singapore.

Behind it is a story that combines legend and history.

Why the Lion’s Head?

According to legend, a Sumatran prince named Sang Nila Utama arrived on the island long ago and saw a mysterious animal that he believed was a lion. He then named the island “Singapura”:
• “Singa” = Lion
• “Pura” = City

So Singapore literally means “Lion City.”

Interestingly, historians believe there were probably no real lions in Singapore at that time, but the legend became an important part of the nation’s identity.

Why the Fish Tail?

Singapore began as a small fishing village known as “Temasek,” an old name linked to the sea.

The fish tail represents:
• Singapore’s origins as a fishing village
• Its close connection to the sea
• Its history as a trading port

So the Merlion combines:
• Lion head → the legend of the Lion City
• Fish tail → Singapore’s maritime roots

Who Created the Merlion?

The Merlion symbol was designed in 1964 for the Singapore Tourism Board (then the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board) and later became one of Singapore’s most recognizable national icons.

Where Can You See It Today?

The most famous statue is located at Merlion Park, facing Marina Bay and “spouting” water into the bay. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in Singapore.

Today, when people think of Singapore, they often think of:
• The Merlion
• Marina Bay
• Gardens by the Bay
• The modern “Garden City” image

It has become a powerful symbol of Singapore’s identity and tourism.

Family Love Batik Elephant Painting kit set. Design code : AN13

Elephants are often seen as symbols of family love because of how they behave in real life, especially in close-knit herds.

Why elephants represent family love:

1. Strong family bonds
Elephants usually live in family groups led by an older female (matriarch). Mothers, sisters, aunts, and grandmothers stay together and help care for the young.

2. Protective nature
Adult elephants protect calves from danger. If a baby is threatened, the whole herd may surround it for safety.

3. Care for the young
Elephant calves are raised not only by their mothers, but by the whole herd. This teamwork reflects support, unity, and community love.

4. Loyalty and memory
Elephants are known for long memories and recognizing family members even after years apart, which makes them symbols of lasting connection.

5. Empathy and emotion
They show signs of affection, grief, comfort, and cooperation, which people associate with deep emotional intelligence and love.

In culture and art

Because of these traits, elephants often symbolize:
• Family unity
• Loyalty
• Wisdom passed through generations
• Protection
• Long-lasting love
• Strength with gentleness

In Asian traditions

In places like Thailand and India, elephants are also respected as sacred or auspicious animals, connected with blessings, prosperity, and harmony.

So when someone uses an elephant image for family, it usually means strong roots, caring hearts, and staying together through
