On July 29, 2005, Sara Hayward caught the largest wahoo ever recorded in the IGFA record books. Her dad woke up early for the fishing trip, and Sara was the only family member who woke up to go out fishing with him aboard the Pez Espada II. The crew had been trolling a Mean Jo Green lure out of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, when the reel started screaming. Sara picked up the rod, and after 45 minutes, they were able to haul in the biggest wahoo they’d ever seen. This incredible 83.46-kilogram (184-pound) catch set not only the IGFA Female Junior World Record, but also the Women’s 37-kg (80 lb) Line Class and the All-Tackle World Record... three fishing World Records that still stand more than 20 years later.
