One of the biggest lies in the seafood world is that the ocean is endless. Meanwhile these commercial tuna boats are out there vacuuming up entire schools at a time with helicopters, spotter planes, mile-long nets, and zero mercy. What used to take generations to build can disappear in a season.

People see a tuna steak at dinner and never think about the floating slaughterhouse behind it. Massive purse seiners can wipe out thousands of tuna in a single set, along with bycatch like dolphins, sharks, turtles, and billfish.

As sport fishermen, we spend our lives respecting the chase, protecting the resource, and appreciating every bite. Industrial fishing operations treat the ocean like a mining operation.

If we don’t start paying attention, one day these fish will just be stories we tell.
