JOB – TITLE: BUSINESS ENTERPRENEUR: SURF SCHOOL / SHOP / CAFÉ/RESTAURANT
VAKARUSURF THULUSDHOO MALDIVES ( KAAFU ATOLL)
Background:
We are an ongoing business, uniquely positioned in the island of Thulusdhoo serving as a one stop destination for all surfing enthusiasts through our surf school and surf shop, while also serving the general public through our unique cafe outlet.
Surf School:
As a destination the island is most renowned in the surfing world as home of the Cokes, while also being in convenient access to Chickens and some other famous surfing spots of Maldives. Situated only 20 meters from the beach, our surf school conducts group and individual surf training courses in the island of Thulusdhoo, in addition to providing tours and excursions depending on availability and seasonality. The facility is the only surf school and rental of professional equipment which extends to offer surf class of a high quality that is personalized and involves surf physical training and video feedback for all levels of surfers.
Serving the larger segment of general tourists in Thulusdhoo, we offer excursion tours and sightseeing of activities such as sunset cruises, snorkelling trips, sand bank visits and island hopping tours which form an essential part of the business operated in association with local partners.
Surf Shop:
Our surf shop serves guests by stocking on various options if surfboards, surf accessories and merchandise items that are of interest to visitors, in particular the surfers staying on the island during seasonal times. This stylish boutique offers original beach gear from local brands and renowned artists that are making original products, art crafts, souvenirs and a whole range more.
Café’/Restaurant:
Our cafe adopts a unique theme and serves guests a variety of drinks and snacks that can be enjoyed in a garden theme concept, representing the tropical paradise the island is. Showcasing live grill and theme night events the business attracts clients throughout the year and is enjoyed by all guests whether surfers or just holiday makers visiting the Maldives.
Our Story:
The brainchild of a French and Maldivian couple, having operated the business since inception two years ago is now as a family intending to move overseas and thus seeks someone to operate the ongoing business, considering to continue the existing lease of the property and overtake business operations under own responsibility.
JOB BRIEF
Being an ongoing business operation, we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person/team to be leading and overseeing the entire operations of the business under VAKARU SURF branding, as the Authorized Authority - to overtake the entire business under their operational responsibility. The successful party would be excellent as an effective leader and team player that will be overtaking the business operations and be responsible for ensuring the efficiency of overall business as well as setting strategic goals for the future course, over a lease period to be agreed upon, structured for medium term.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed and confident in all business matters, well aware of the operating business environment provided it will be based on the island of Thulusdhoo and therefore require to engage and to operate the business stationed on the island, while ideally be familiar with the surf environment and water sports industries, with a particular focus on customer service in the tourism industry (having a previous experience in the restaurant business will be a plus). Furthermore, they will be competent at leading a team to operate the business units and able to offer great customer care and provide guidance that enhances performance in a manner which incorporates the brand’s vision and culture to generate economic value.
The goal will be to ensure the profitability of the venture activities to drive sustainable development and long-term success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate would be required to undertake the following responsibilities as the Authorized Authority:
• Generate a good understanding of the existing business model and the operating environment to grasp the business operations and understand the market and yearly seasonality.
• Design and develop strategic goals and objectives that tend to growth and prosperity of the business ventures ensuring existing business lines continue to operate at the minimum.
• Implement business plans and strategies to promote the attainment of progressive goals with consent or arrangements with the Business Owners and arrange investment for such plans where necessary.
• Ensure that the business venture has the adequate and suitable resources to complete its activities (e.g. people, material, equipment etc.) at the minimum to cover routine rental payments, regular royalty fees, monthly expenses associated to staff and other operational expenses incurred for the business maintain good relations and manageable cashflows.
• Flexibly organize and coordinate operations in ways that ensure maximum productivity, ensuring relationships with stakeholders and partners are maintained to achieve further brand recognition and maintain the positive brand image that has been developed over the years of business.
• Hire, retain and train team members to deliver a professional level of service fitting the tourism industry and providing a team-based attitude for the entire business approach, with an overall emphasis on the safety requirements associated with water sports and surfing activities.
• Supervise the work of employees and provide feedback and counsel to improve efficiency and effectiveness, complying to all legal and regulatory requirements associated to staffing.
• Ensure compliance to all health and safety, and food hygiene standards practiced at the business is to the highest levels keeping in mind the international tourist clients that support the business.
• Gather, analyse and interpret external and internal data and compile routine management reports to ensure the business context remains relevant to the business environment that persists at the time.
• Assess overall business venture performance against objectives individually for each business line, compare against competitive businesses and maintain innovative approaches to ensure success of the business at all times with focus on the seasonality and changes to target markets.
• Promote business activities regularly across various social media platforms and maintain a dynamic web presence, allowing the business to promote the its image and enhance networking within the industry to represent the brand always in a positive manner.
• Maintain all financial reporting and ensure transparency of operations on a routine basis of recording accounting transactions through agreed arrangements for regular management account statements, for filing regular tax reports and undertaking annual financial audits.
• Ensure adherence to existing and any future legal rules and guidelines as applicable to the business from time to time.
